I'm going to order one of these sound cards of a USA store (compgeeks) in a couple of weeks so i thought i'd offer any lanx dude the chance to buy one of these excellent sound cards at a discount price. I did a google search and the only aussie online store stocked them at $90, i should be able to get them for $50 each or maybe a bit less (depending on exchange rate, number of buyers etc). I've already got a couple of mates you are probably gonna buy em. If you don't already know these are the best value sound card on the market. For $50 you get a sound card that shits all over any creative card (including audigy2) for mp3/cd audio playback and can do up to 7.1 channels. no EAX however.

i'll pm bank details in a few days and you (and everyone else) can send the money over via internet banking. If that doesn't suit then otherwise you can just drop the money off to me personally (i live in ballarat east).

The best part about this sound card has to be how it can bypass kmixer, read this: http://htpcnews.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3616 . That is the reason for my buying this card - It damn well better work :P

SnooP
07-11-2004, 10:25 PM
well if you use directsound you should be able to bypass kmixer. However to be sure your getting bit perfect playback use kernal streaming (works out the box). You could use ASIO but thats more fiddling around than kernal streaming. theres a kernal streaming plugin for winamp and foobar2k has it to.
TIP for everyone. Don't install the chaintech drivers, download the drivers provided by VIA

oh yeah, and it's supposed to be a good idea to modify the drivers to play out of the Wolfson DACs - or so I read...

Alright time to pay. If you can get payment in by the end of the week so i can order the cards and stuff on the weekend. If anyone else wants one, you can but get payment ASAP!

The reason i am rushing it a bit is because the aussie dollar is so high at the moment so i wanna get the cards while its up at 75 cents or so.

Anyways i'll pm bank details to all involved and address if you wanna just give me cash. If anyone needs a few days to pay thats probably ok but sooner i get money, sooner everyone gets sound cards :)

Awesome! The money's on it's way! I hope it doesn't come while I'm down at schoolies though :S

EDIT: Oh yeah, what about postage? I can't quite make it down to your house...

I hope this order doesn't get taxed like some overseas orders...

SnooP
09-11-2004, 07:52 PM
nah won't be taxed. Customs threshold is like $1000 in Australia (i've imported things worth more than this with not duty). And postage will most likely be either $3.20 or $4.40 (depending on weight of the thing) , or I'll bring it to at next lanx. Whatever works best for everyone. Anyways just PM your address sometime in the next week or two.

Alright, so in effect nipples is ordering 2 and giving one of them to you?

Dutchy
10-11-2004, 03:47 PM
Yup, but first.

Is it true what I've heard that these cards separate the bass from the other outputs?

Therefore denying the ability to pump out full stereo sound through some standard 2.1 Channel speakers?

Cos i don't have 5.1 let alone 7.1 as of yet.

SnooP
10-11-2004, 04:46 PM
I'm not exactly sure...Though in stereo mode i'd assume the drivers would downmix everything to two channels, including the bass channels. Im not exactly sure what your getting at....Does your speaker setup have three channels of input or just two channels, with bass seperation done by the speakers itself?

kingo55
10-11-2004, 06:50 PM
i think there's a plugin you can get for foobar 2000 that can do that but i'm not sure. checkout foobar 2000, its very configurable.

Joshu

Don't worry Dutchy, you'll be fine; if you're talking about your current speakers, they're 2.0 anyway, so you'll be fine. The card should downmix anything 5.1 to 2.0 if you've got it selected.
