Back to the topic.... I say Nvidia cos they run doom3 faster. if you got cash can't go wrong with a 6600 GT (should be out in a couple of weeks)

I use an ASUS Radeon 9600XT, and i love it.

It can run Doom 3 just aswell as any Ge-Force, with a bit of tweaking, Doom 3 was made for Nvidia cards it has special extentions for them.

I think it all comes down to personal preference, Boo2 has a Ge-Force FX5700 and he says its pretty fucken good. However i just like my Radeon, read some reveiws and make up your own mind. Dont bother being brand loyal because some other company will release something better soon. Eg. Intel P-4 Vs. AMD Opturion.

Brand loyalty is a sad thing, who the hell is 'loyal' to something that doesn't give a shit whether you live or die, and just wants to extract funds from you.

Corporations
Governments

They can go fuck 'emselves.

good point. buy what is best... but i dont know what it

Joshu

Brand loyalty does suck.

With that said, I've had a horrid experience with ATI drivers + compatibility (although maybe that's simply the suckyness of the 9200SE)

radass

I used to be an nvidia fan boy until i went dual screen, and the nvidia dual monitor support was shit

used ati ever since without any problems.

I HAVE THAT CARD.... yes it does BITE:eek:

cvt
07-10-2004, 06:03 PM
what it comes down to is....

THEY ALL SUCK because none of them support real time ray tracing..

but that aside...

nvidia are shit cos... I said so
ati are shit because... idiots say so

but more specifically..
if you want doom3 to look its best, get a 6800ultra, but why? when the games as interesting as a steaming pile of shit melting in the snow with a yellow piss-ring around it..
so its mildly interesting, but ya not gonna jam ya nose into it for hours and hours, let alone weeks are ya?
so why buy a card on one crap game?

admitadly, atm ati have got its advantage, as do nvidia.
nvidia have Pixel Shader 3.0, great, now for it to be used :/
ati have got brute horsepower, but no pixel shader 3.0

ok, next thing..

the pro-nvidia person will say "ati has bad compatibility, blah blah blah, I drink my own piss, my shit tastes nicer off a nvidia card than a ati one"
that is a common error, usually the BTSAK bug. brand loyalty (stupidity/arogance) or old thinking, we ain;t talking about 7500 anymore you fucktards!
if not, its probably the almight SE range of cards, or built by gigabyte, eitherway, gigabyte suck balls and SE are for unknoledged suckers.

the pro-ati person will say "nvidia image isn;t as good as ati's, i eat my own shit for brekky, and ati's heatsinks hold my piss better than nvidias when I drink it"
what can I say, same as above, brand loyalty, stupidity, arrogance, or thinking back the GeForce 2/3 days, pull yer head out yer arse and smell the air foo!
nvidia also got there arses whooped when they went to the GF4, GF FX lines, only those that stayed were the above mentioned.. they'll have every excuse/reason, but the fact is, nvidias cards are bigger, so must perform better.
well, from an electrical standpoint, thats the oppisite.

so, more to the point...

I use whatever card performs best per cost, is reliable, and doesn;t fault.
so I don;t buy matrox, simple :)
if your looking second hand, get a 9700/9800, remember, avoid SE, and preferably pro, don;t get anything built by gigabyte.
if your looking new, for top of the range, wait, don;t buy..
for middle range, get the nvidia 6800series.
for bottom, look at the x series ati.

why wait for top.
well, ati still haven't released there new chip.
contrary to what people think, the x800 series was only a suped up version of the 9800, which was a suped up 9700.
the new chip which is designed to compete with the 6800 is not finished yet, this was a fill in (like nvidia trying there hardest with the fx 59xx series)
if ur gonna spend that much, just get a 6800 or x600xt (for pcie) to get ya by for now, or get a 9800pro/xt (not a 9600, they suck balls, if ya wanna go cheap second hand get a fx)
i mean, whats six months for waiting for top of the range..

thats why I have a 6800 (not ultra or gt).
because my 9700pro got retired, and ati have something up there sleeve, and I only have AGP.. why get top of the range now?
i ain;t on drugs.

so basically...
this thread will go to shit with
BUY ATI, FASTER, BETTER
BUY NVIDIA, NO ISSIES
and it will all be rubbish, above if the facts, love it or leave it ;)

love,
cvt

edit:
and for those that dont know
BTSAK bug is a version of the Between The Seat And Keyboard virus.. no known fix for it, so ya just gotta put up with it if you got it.

edit2:
and as radass said.

ati dual monitor support is rad.
the dual monitor support on this 6800 is about as good as a hot rusty stake in the eye.

there was so much piss drinking and shit eating in that post it scared me.

cvt

I just read that, and, indeed, it is scary.

the whole sick sexual fantasies with pcb's and transistors with a brandname etched onto it is quite a disturbing thing indeed..
wether it be graphics cards, CPU's, pokemon things, or auto-extinguishing joints.. its all quite qeer!

Eoin

Nvidia does have craptacular dual monitor support, or maybe I just can't work out how to do it properly.

I want a kind of like a horizontal span but more like two desktops like your set up Dave.

radass
07-10-2004, 06:55 PM
i think there is the option for that dude .. some where within it's stinky bowls

and thanks for bringing me back to craptacular :)

cvt

It does work like that eoin.

just it has issues with the placement and maximizing windows, and dialogs, and centering, and and and and and...

it does work, if you persist and can put up with issues, it'll do.

but me, it just never worked like my ati, so much so as I dumped the second screen :(

so I don;t buy matrox,

I OBJECT!!!

fuck the lot of ya's! ill have my voodoo babshee, and go play counterstrike and starcraft. Its the best card for that j00 n00bs

btw dom whats your price figure

08-10-2004, 02:04 PM
I would say go get an ATI Radeon 9600XT, mainly because there about $50 cheaper than a 9800Pro and perform just aswell.
I know this because i used both of the cards at one point, and becasue alot of reveiws say the same thing.

As CVT said you really need to be careful of what brand you buy. Gigabyte realy do suck, ASUS have treated me very well, MSI are cheap.... (nuff said :P) and Powercolour are great.

If you realy dont know what to get just buy somthing like an FX5200 and wait for the new shit to come out. And just to fill in the time read some reviews belive me it wont hurt.

dominatrix
08-10-2004, 08:31 PM
well, i just bought an xpertvision 9600le
really couldnt be fucked being all meticulous after cvt's huge piss drinking and shit eating post. so i just got the best one spec wise i could find

cvt
08-10-2004, 09:05 PM
lol... love it man...

"(not a 9600, they suck balls, if ya wanna go cheap second hand get a fx)"

have fun!

and I do disagree about the 9600xt being as good as a 9800pro, maybe a 9700pro, then again, how do you know it wasn't a change of drivers changing performace?
but the 9600pro can be modded up, which is a must do.. but the LE... what is that?

is it a rename of the dreaded SE, or is it a renamed pro/xt, or some other derived strangety?
curious man, never heard of em.

dominatrix
08-10-2004, 09:30 PM
'limited edition' im pretty sure, but for $160 new i wasnt complaining

Blade
08-10-2004, 09:39 PM
if u don't mind explaining, how can a 9600PRO be modded up (obviously i have one 256 MB)

radass
08-10-2004, 09:52 PM
should be a decent card, especially for $160

cvt
10-10-2004, 03:11 PM
My mistake, I was thinking of 9500 upping.
the 9800se can go to a 9800pro in some cases, the 9500pro to 9700pro.
you can voltmod it but thats about it, sorry dude :p

voltmod it and overclock the brains out of it :p
for heat... you could always do what this dude did :p
