Well, My blackbox is nearing his expiry date as a gaming machine, tho its life will beat on for many years to come as the best file server/desktop work/multimedia machine around, its time to consider another "toy"

well, I've put a bit of thought into it.. and I've decided to go the closest to prometia cooling as possible (maybe better, maybe worse, will be close), but not as any known method, I am designing my cooling system from ground up, getting custom made gear, gonna be sitting at the milling machine, it will be extreme! quite possibly the first "3 stage" cooling system ever.

This box will be in a std size case, because of coolig design, it won;t be internal, but won;t be external, well, 2 stages will be internal and stage1 will be external.

no, not an icecream container, but beware the touch, the exteranl stage will be around 75-85C, depending how hard I pump the cpu, and what cpu I get.

what case.. well I'm thinking of this thing.
http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod1422.htm
trust me, them fans will be removed, not mentioned before, only 1 fan will be in this case, the PSU, nothing else, at all!
and I WILL need 2 PSU's, so this case is looking best so far.

HDD will be simple, 2x 250gig satas raided.

Mobo undecided as CPU undecided, prescott is apparently a mad OCer IF you can deal with the heat and not melt the socket, well, new socket should solve that problem, then theres the FX, we'll see
Gfx Card is also undecided, will be either the x800xt or 6800ultra, but gotta wait for them to be released to see who makes first place, and who overclocks the best.

So this will be my progression thread, as decisions are made, purchases are ordered, and over the development of the cooling system I will let out more hints as how this system will work.
but trust me, its gonna make prometia look like old technology, let alone water cooling!

there are 3 aims for this system.
1. EVERYTHING must be SEVERLY overclocked
2. Silence, I mean, no noise, as in, hdd will be mounted in those silencing boxes, and if I can hear the PSU fans over it, the PSU will be cooled by my uber 3 stage system aswell.
3. Portability, remain easy and mess free to move, being a 2 part system, this is going to require some serious thinking, but I belivce from fully custom made connectors I can have this acheived.

Timeline:
Today: ordered custom components for stage 2
researching stage 3

1 week: have stage 3 ordered/built

2 weeks: test stage 2 and 3 for effiencency and requirements for stage 1

3 - 4 weeks: Have cooling system completed and make final decision on case

5 - 6 weeks: have the case and be desinging custom second PSU

6 - 7 weeks: complete case modifications (no windows) and installation of stage 1/2 interconnector
start researching for maddest overclocking hardware available and start ordering

8 - 12 weeks: order componentry, build

Mid to end of September, be ready to welcome the hottest air you will have ever felt from a computer, and the maddest OC'd box at LAN-X since wilso!

sif create a machine without waiting for the BTX form factor or PCI-X to come out properly.

cvt
27-06-2004, 10:19 PM
PCI-X will be out by then, mobo;s are already released, and the case supports BTX, and it will be out by then

.

plus treating a cpu as harshly as I will be, it will be dead in a year so I'd be upgrading pretty soon anyways ;)

In that case, all the best to ya! Make sure you do something awesome to the case and take pictures.

trust me, there'll be pictures, shitloads of them.

I done searches on google, and every OCing forum, and noones thought of this, so its a first, so I gotta make a bit of noise about it :p

as for the case, undecided man, if anyone can think of seom nice modest mods to that case I'm interested in hearing, not intested in a big fast window and lights, gotta be differnt otherwise I won;t do it :p

.
anyway, thanks man ;)

well i reakon, since ur a huge supporter of ur awesome LAN X mates, cut out a big X in teh side of your case.

lucyfur painted teh X on her case and it looks good, so a nice X cut outta the panel and red cathodes would look good.

plus it'll be good advertising too :D

Hahaha :D

If you do any electrical stuff, just make sure you learn from my mistake - the case is NOT a suitable ground for +12V.

nuts, i would have assumed it was ok too

in other news, fuck my farts stink today. Oh if only there was a lan on :'(

haha, you fool.

yes, I'm gonna be building a 1200watt PSU for it, so that would make a better zap that your prolly 100W spark :p

first, I've decided to swap the stage namings.
being the cpu part being stage 1 and last part stage 3
makes more sense
.

Update, finished the maths, verified everything.

Stage3 will run between 30C and 50C, and be ran away from the pc, as in, 5 meters or more away easily.

the heat put out of stage 3 can vary between 300 to 1400 watts of heat
cpu should never get above -10C, even if its a 40C day and stage 3 is outside.
and if its a cool day, for example, lan-x days :p
-20 or less will be simple and easy to acheive.

So Stage 2 core is ordered, and I just ordered another couple parts for it.
stage 3 is all figured out

but I can't do anything atm because I have no tools, so more earlier ordering may happen.

also, it will have to be PLC controlled, so I am going to have to build a program a PLC for it awsell, and that will ahve a nice 4x20 LCD to report cooling system status and temperatures everywhere, 100% independant of the PC, and will include a cooldown/warmpu stage after the system is turned off so that the sudden increase in temp after being turned off won't happen.

I gotta figure out a better way of showing this...

***loads up dreamweaver

How many tables are you going to be booking at LAN-X?

cvt

1/2 the room.

nah man, seriously, stage3 can be sat under the table, no issue there.
just for installation in the house, it will be thrown outside.

so less space than I used to really :)

build stage 3 into the keyboard so nice warm air wams those frozen fingers at night

just so you guys know that AMD wont be suporting BTX cases,,, as they will use ATX cases until they Die!

who said I'd run AMD?
but I prolly will ;)
but atm intel is really giving amd a kick back in the balls for the severe arse whooping amd delt out intel earlier.

CVT i assume your gonna use a heater under your Mobo if your gonna be hitting negative temps. on your CPU...... Dont make the mistake i did, i hit -5C on my 3GHZ P-4 when she was over clocked to 4GHZ when i put liquid refridgerant thru my cooling system.

I didnt realize that ice crystals were forming on the under bellie of my mobo. i saved my system but i know that its pretty dangerous :D.

I learned if you put a fish tank heater under your Mobo that no condensation forms w00t!

Not sure if that info will be any thing new to you but i still feel obliged to help :)

Non Dairy, I'm thinking of either running the system submersed, or cover it in non conductive coating (can't remember its name, bought some for a PSU I built, and works perfect, drop it in water, and no harm done), so the ice that forms, can form and dribble water as much as it feels like ;)

Sounds excellant CVT tis a great idea, but can you take the stuff off after you put it on? I reackon it could make future upgrades a nightmare if you cant.

tecs are here
coppers here
radiators here
first PSU is built, tested, and sex
(only 3 to go)

and using the advantage of being pissed, and easy, I ordered the case and some water blocks just then.

no, its not water cooled, water freezes at these temps ;)

non dairy, as easy as any other cooling system ;)
