the neis course kenny and myself are on doesn't finish until the end of november.
and as part of the course we can't start trading until the course finishes.
so we expect to have VicLAN ready to run in december.
hang on a little bit longer!!

The wheels are in motion ;) They are big wheels, nice smooth wheels, sexy wheels, the kind of wheels you would take home to meet your parents. Hopefully we'll try to have membership's happening within the next month, just for LAN Managers, the whole gamers part will happen a bit later. But we want to get PLI insurance for us ASAP! Because after the incident at the last lanx4 when stuff blew up, you can never be too careful, luckily thought it wasn't our fault and the offending party claimed resposibility and paid for the exploding equipment. When the 24 port switch went pop, oh my!

Thats a bit nasty.
Hope that doesn't happen to us... :(

Won't matter soon, as long as you equipment is up to scratch, and you do as much as possible to ensure saftey etc, your covered. I mean, it was the VIP room this happened, so all $3G + computers, for most lans, even if 2 computers got fried, that $6G... would be the end of the LAN I reakon...

oh yes indeed. I don't wish that fate on anyone.

Just going on what you said about ensuring safety at a LAN, would this mean about tapping down cords, locations of PCs and cables, power locations and other stuff like that....and i did'nt get what u ment by your equipment being up to scratch.?!

all electrical equipment has to be certified by qualified sparkies.
some brought extension cables come with certification.

and yeah cords have to be taped down to prevent tripping.

as long as practical precautions are put in place and the risks minimised, we can't be held liable.

thats the stuff we just finished TNW-4 (WE HIT 60+ that was our max) anyway we spend about an hour taping cords and working on safty if thats any help.

its gotta be done right.

Yea, at Lz1 we had about 62 peeps and there cords were running everywhere, we just did'nt set it up right, but we have learned agreat deal from this, and i will now look into our cords and stuff like that.

and on that note, the power at X-5, i saw u had this big bloody power thingo just down from where i was sitting, and i was wondering what that was!? at Lz we had to have lots of extesion cords powering lots of peopes gear, and they were getting hot....the hall we have has 3 phase, and i was wondering what that power box was that u guys had at X...

Cheers

It's a 3 phase distribution box that breaks 3 phase down to single phase.

As a part of our course at the moment we are doing OH&S, and we are getting all the information about regulations etc.

Good work DL, we are looking at having each member LAN appoint an OH&S officer to make sure that all the safety regulations are followed. We need to do this for the PLI, because we have to do everything possible to prevent accidents etc.

Good work guys! Glad to see your on the ball!

Great how could we get ou hands on that type of hardware? hire it? It would great to have an OH&S guidelnes to follow at LAN's make things a lot more safer, like not haveing to do the limbo under CAT5 cables inbetween tables......funny story

You can build them too. A good sparky can do it for you.
It would be damn cheaper than 2K!!!
They can cetrify their own work too.

Comments?

NECROPHILE! This tread is over a year old, let it die! It's for the Royal Childrens Hospital, why would they be all over it, unless they wanted to have shit thrown at them.
