the reason i bought the SE DVD version was because i bought UT the day it was released and have played it ever since (4? years or so?)

then i bought 2k3 - hated it. felt betrayed to by epic. now 2k4 comes out and its everything 2k3 SHOULD have been

JUST BUY IT CAUSE WE WANT HEAPS OF TEAMS FOR THE LANX 2K4 COMPS (im thinkin main comp of ons, secondary comps of 1v1, ctf, br, ddom...so much can be done with this game :D)

yes there is the matter of competition, but there is also exclusivity.
and that is more a problem to be taken up with the wholesaler rather than the retailer.

but anyway, who gives a shit where you get it. if you are too tight to buy the special edition,

moo the ACCC were contacted the day that many online retailers (ozforces was where i originally pre-ordered the game) found out what HN did

the ACCC's response was - We are not going to do anything about it.

That was what we were told was the reaction, as the ozforces guys wouldnt tell us exactly what was said (for various reasons)

now - in asking the OzF what the reasons were we managed to come to the conclusion that it is up to the company that distributes the game as to who gets to sell it. there are many many instances were there are EXCLUSIVE deals made for certain shops - i work at liquorland and we are the exclusive retailers of Mezcal Tequila. the company managed this by securing the exclusivity deal with teh supplier

now - this is important because people are too quick to blame HN for all of this. Is it HN's fault they outbid all the other suppliers? Is it HNs fault that atari chose this method of release for the DVD-SE edition of the game? No and no.

if anyone has any problems with what happened then i urge them to take it up with Atari. They are the ones that initiated the bidding for exclusivity. it was their idea and HN was the lucky company to come out with the copies of the game

yes, it sucks - if every shop could have it i would no doubt have been able to get it for $90 instead of $100 (woopeeedoo) but this isnt what happened. it sounds unfair but it happens more often than you think

so again, i urge people to look past their dislike of HN and get a copy of the game

when its all said and done - the game is what we want - not a particular company name on the receipt :)

i recommend getting the DVD SE version as its installed from 1 dvd not 6 CDs - plus it has a headset with a mic and an extra dvd with hours of stuff on how to make maps, etc. its got a lot of extra features - doesnt mean you HAVE to get that copy

get a copy of the normal 6cd versions from ANYWHERE

doesnt have to be HN

im sure you could get a copy of the normal version for around $70 - not to bad considering its a brand new game
