OK, first problem is during working on teh compz, it will give me a short error beep from the mobo speaker (i can't find my mobo manual so it's just a beep to me) the screen will turn off, although the mouse pointer will still be on screen. The comp specs are: 2gig ozc ram, asus 8600gt on a $150 or so asus mobo. I've checked out the ram, everything is checked over twice, my best answer for the problem was the gfx card was over heating or something, despite the large copper fan on it. This shitty problem happens ever winblows boot so it's annoying, using DX10 comp forceware. I dont think i / we can define the problem just from that info, but if something of the like has plagued someone else please tell!

Second problem is that hal.dll keeps fucking itself over and corrupting etc, happened twice now in the matter of months, boot paths were correct and shit, i checked the boot.ini file and not a blemish in site, but when i go to replace the file when windows wont start in recovery console it wont let me replace any files, gives me the old "access denied" speech. I can log onto the console since i'm the only admin on the comp, but still won't let me replace "expand d:\i386\hal.dl_ c:\windows\system32\hal.d ll" if someone can enlighten me on my mistakes or something, dont hold back, but i'm just blaming it on the hard drive now, its a seagate 250gb about 5-6 months old

www.seagate.com (http://www.seagate.com) look for a program called Seatools.

1, use vista. 2, check up your motherboard chipset and find out what the beep code is

I had something simmilar to you first problem with a 6600GT some time ago. The way I fixed it was making the apature (amount of system memory that the vid card gets to store all of it's shit on) of the car in your BIOS.

Also only just fixed my PC just now that had a fked up Hal.DLL file. Have you tried rebuilding the boot.ini file because a screwed up boot.ini file can sometimes show itself as a Hal.dll file error.

More ideas for fixingness

have you even tried this (http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm#How%20to%20 Repair%20Windows%20XP%20b y%20Installing%20Over%20t op%20of%20Existing%20Setu p:) (secondary less-gay link) (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/doug92.mspx)
won't gay up any of your apps/settings unless you fuck the process up, always worth a try
if you don't see your xp install in the list (step 5 in the microsoft link) then ABORT ABORT ABORT etc

holy hell, where do I start :(

there needs to be a computer rights or alike, some sort of movement that arrests people like you lot for pc abuse!
