Hi Guys,
I just got this email from my mum, just wondering if any of you are looking for a dog at the moment?
I had a call today from some woman who said without any hello, nothing "I don't want my dog, will you take him, I'm in Ballarat and I have driven from Maryborough" It turned out she was at rspca and they gave her my number and asked her to ring. She was so rude and short, said the dog was aggressive and she would not take him home again. I spoke to the rspca person who said they couldn't keep the dog for rescue. I told her to get the owner to sign a reclaim form and leave it with them, they had to keep the dog for the statutory 8 days. No! They said if the dog was brought in for aggression it was put down the next day. I bought him until noon on Sunday. I rang them back later and they said the dog seemed fine, they had put him next to a Rottie and GS and he showed no aggression at all. They didn't like the woman who brought him in, said she didn't care what happened to the dog, said she told them she had three small kids and did not have any more time for the dog. The dog is 12 months old and was bought at a pet shop in Ballarat. His name is Teddy - and I think that says it all. Anyway I got them to give me the woman's phone number and I called her late in the afternoon . She did speak to me, i was half expecting her to say F off.
When i asked what the aggression was about & what was happening, she said that he "didn't get on with" their other dog.
I asked if they had fought and she said "yes once" - what was the damage like, was there blood, was vet treatment needed? No, no blood , no damage. The other dog is 12 years old, a GSD x Mal. I asked how the maremma was with her children, (aged I, 2 and 4) she said fine, they jump all over him and he loves it. Had he ever growled or snapped at her, the kids, any other people - no he loves people. Was he aggressive towards other dogs - No he's fine with other dogs, just doesn't like their other dog. She also said he needs too much time because he likes attention !!!!!!!!
This is some information my mum's put up about the breed: http://www.shrimanifarm.com/maremmalivestockguardiand ogs
He's getting put to sleep tomorrow (Sunday 19th) at MIDDAY, if anyone is looking for a dog, or if you have an older relative that needs a companion dog (one of the most loyal and loving dogs you'll find), get to the RSPCA in ballarat tomorrow before MIDDAY and do ya good deed for the day.
Cheers Guys,
Let me know if anyone saves him, be free entry to the next lanx and a user@lanx.org.au email addy in it for ya.
