Hi folks
How are you all doing? Thats lovely

I want a better graphics card
I want to spend no more than 300-350 bucks
Doesn't need to be super fantastic but not shit either

Anything I should look out for?
Are the 7900 cards still OK or not worth it because of the 80something cards?
Want to buy it tomorrow because I'm an impulsive, reckless man.

Help me out!

Cheers guys

the whole point of impulse is NOT planning, NOT researching, just seeing something.. thinking, hey, that looks cool, and comming home with it.
and there should be no limits either...

trust me, I'm a professional at impulse buying.... see a car, 3 hours later driving it home, see a 360 in a shop, drive home with it, see a psp, bring it home with me, the only limit is when you run out of money, and unless you have ran out, theres no reason to be giving yourself a budget, that also defeats the purpose of impulse purchases.

Fair enough then, I'll just have a guess and pick one down at msy tomorrow, see what happens
I don't think they sell anything as bad as mine anymore so I can't actually go backwards

Thanks for the quick reply too cvt :)

Hey!!! It's EOIN! What's happening champ! Well this all depends if you're in the AGP or PCI-X boat, are you still running the P4C800-E? If so the X1950AGP was recently released and is about the best performance you'll get on AGP in your price range (even though it's a radeon), if you've made the switch to PCI-X I would suggest the 7950GT 512MB, very good medium price card. But if you're willing to rob a liquor store for just that little bit more, they released a 320MB version of the 8800GTS which retails at around the $480 mark and will future proof yo ass a little for a little extra bucks! You'll get DX10!!! Do you know what that means! NOT MUCH! :P

Hey Kenny, things are pretty good, but I feel that my current graphics card is selling me short. And I can't have that

I got a new machine a little over a year ago so I've got a motherboard with PCI-E.
I like the look of those 7950s, not really in the position to spend on a 8800 being a student again, but I'll see how it all goes down with the crazy buggers down at msy. Maybe I can get them to lower the price in exchange for English lessons.

Watch this space for the exciting conclusion!

Well I ended up getting a 7900GS for $210
Seems to run things pretty nicely, vast improvement over the 6800LE that I had
And my MSY experience was only slightly annoying instead of the usual completely mind numbing
Hurrah!

Thank you for help people ;)

the big question is:

do you still like seductively steaming potatoes?

I love potatoes as much, if not more than ever
Particularly steaming ones. (Read into that what you will ;))
