LANX29 is fast approaching and we need to preselect some games to save on the fucking around time.

k - what we are after is:
the ELBOW venues game,
GUF venues game
and decider will be QUAKE 3 CTF as usual.

Suggest and i'll follow up with a poll if needed.

Yes let's totally have a 2v2 comp when there is something like 70 gamers to choose from. What's that? You say you don't want to alienate ballarat's gaming community? Oh, better have real teams then. ;)

SWAT4 - But I'm guessing the 'grown ups' will choose that one.
I'd say COD2, but it's nice to change things up a bit from good ol' LAN games. C&C3 hits the shelves soon I think, although it might not be on GUF computers/people are scared of RTS.

rts comps are hard - unless they are quick or have a built in time limit we cant do it.
if we did put a timelimit on it - there is no real way to determine a winner.

i would love some rts action - but the only one quick enuff would be defcon.

Running dystopia doesn't actually require HL2 or anything like that, it runs off 'Source SDK base' which is a free download through steam, so I'm guessing we would be able to run it.

There are seperate files for the client mod, and the server mod.

Only problem I would have, although it rocks, it is a fairly complicated game. So you'd really need to make sure you get some lanners up to speed, or play a more popular game. Great games are good and all but if only 4 or 5 people know how to play it, it won't make for a very fun competition.

taspring, conversion of Total Annihilation into proper 3d, The gameplay is basically the same, barring a few new units here and there, and small balance changes like the AA trucks with fast long ranged guided missiles only being able to shoot air. Matches play much faster than C&C generals as long as the right map is chosen.

For you noobs, TA was the game that came before supreme commander, back when Gas Powered Games was still Cavedog or something. Supcom is the sequel, and the gameplay has hardly changed in 10 years.

spring is open source (and sorta free), pretty steady and will run on almost any pc, although a big enough map with unlimited units will cause trouble for everyone.

Please no RTS comps. No matter how organised everyone thinks they are or however many people they think are going to play it. It will just not work. It just won't... They go forever, people usually get sick of it about halfway through, They get way less involvement than FPS games, It's harder to learn most RTS than most FPSes and the two people who actually like the game will inevitabley win.

Last time at guf. We Selected Dawn Of War as our first comp, we had a few rounds and it really just did not work. Please no RTS.

While I agree for the most part, I'm pretty sure DOW worked perfectly but the big kids couldn't get their asses together so they just stole our lunch money and played CSS. But otherwise it worked....

RTS, would be great fun, its just very hard to find one that we can get alot of people involved with.

126 hours isn't just trying it buddy, thats atleast a lvl45 or higher, unless you really sucked at it.... which would explain the relentless bagging of it, also the common mentions of ironforge make one assume you were alliance, which includes homosexuals and 12yr olds only.
