Yeah I'm thinking about getting a decent mouse in about the $100 price bracket. Which is better, G5 or G7? or is there better mice out there than these two?

g7 = wireless g5 without weights pretty much

Scuba Steve

yeah i know that but which is better for all round gaming/general use?

Get the G5, you'll save yourself some cash, and the battery life on the G7 aint that great, so I'd definitely go wired over having to swap battery packs too much.

and weights pwn

Yup. I use a G5 personally, and I've played with a G7, the cord on the G5 is like 1m - 1.5m so there are no issues there, and i doubt you'll want to game from the other side of the room.

The weights are good so you can customise where the weight is centered.

Or you could save yourself even more cash and get an MX518. Ive been using one for over a year and they are great. They are quite a bit cheaper than the G5 and perform just as well. They also have the smooth finish (opposed to the gritty one on the G5) and a few extra buttons. But the cord isnt quite as good and no weight packs.

I had a G7 for a while and quite liked it but changing of the battery got a bit annoying and it was interfering with my wireless and freezing up.

logitech are leaving the microsoft mouse/keyboards for dead now.. microsoft are really falling short in design and quality with their hardware. i have a g5 and like it. only thing i dont like about it is the thumb groove is set too far back. i use a ms optical intellmouse explorer at work and it's realy well designed - but i dont think you can buy them anymore. and the g5 has the sensitivity changer buttons too, which is handy.

i use G5 good mouse for gaming why care about the finish on it and the weights thing is just a wank to make fegit think it pwns, basically the battery pack is the alternate to the weights, but if you have a wireless router in the house or near the mouse it can interfer with it, fuckin annoying but 120 G5 or 180 G7 its kinda pointless buying the g7

Let me know where you go to buy these overpriced pieces of hardware so I never go there, EVER.

G5 = $95 in Ballarat or $78 if you go to Melbourne
G7 = $132 in Ballarat or $105 in teh Big Smoke (Melbourne)

yeah EB charge ~160 for a G15 keyboard, whats with that?

Zender
30-01-2007, 01:02 AM
I would say that EB is aimed at the more mundane gamers of the community - the type who proclaim themselves good when they beat the CoD2 campaign on a difficulty setting higher than "Easy" and have never heard of this so-called "inter-webs"

But to be fair, they price match too.

Come to think of it, the G5's scrollwheel is pretty fkn annoying, got huge amounts of resistance on it. Feels really crap for me, especially in comparison to the OEM Microsoft mice.

elliooo
30-01-2007, 07:34 AM
Well If you're into slick scrollwheelage there is always the MX Revolution (i think) that wheel will scroll for 7 seconds after you wheel it, so if you're ever hit with long pages and dont want to use the keyboard. ;)

brendon
30-01-2007, 11:36 AM
yeah joshu, that is a big down fall of the G5 - the scroll wheel is too clunky.. too much space between the notches. it needs to be more sensitive.

Like the wayne brothers - guess which one the g3 is?

Easy fixed, bung her open (warranty voiding, ftw!) and remove the device that provides the resistance.

Voila! You have a free wheel mouse.

If you still want a little resistance, bung one from an MX series mouse in there (they fit with a little persuasion)

i got my G-fiddy from EB for 95

you play WoW tho are you a pro gamer?

think in some cases the resistance is good well IG anyway coz if u scroll masha then you scroll past the gun you trying to select so it can be a bonus but on a webpage it sucks

brendon
02-02-2007, 05:28 PM
i find that the scroll will change guns without ging full click, then when you let go it scrolls back, then you scroll again and it goes 2 guns.. and zomg head shot -dead- maybe i'm just rubbish at games (very likely).

BUT

my work mouse, which is an ms intellimouse explorer doesn't click - that's more annoying.

Zender
02-02-2007, 06:46 PM
I use the stock resistance, its better imo

And Sacren, how is what games I play relevant to well - anything really? You people say WoW is just pressing buttons? Find me a game that doesnt involve pressing buttons or some other basic function, you fucking halfwit. It might not require the reflexes of an FPS game, but many games fall under this catergory.

Besides all this, i play a lot of games, not just WoW. The G5 i find, is an appropriate mouse ESPECIALLY if you play many different genre's as the hot keys for sensitivity are just tops :)

I'm glad you haven't yet reached that level of gaming yet. I don't doubt you'll start getting as good as the rest of us soon, but until then, you may keep living by your motto of "A good handyman never blames his tools".

Fact is, anyone who thinks the mouse you use for gaming doesn't matter, PLEASE ask Frosty for a borrow of his Razer Copperhead mouse. Takes around 1KG of force to push the left mouse button, compared to the about 100g (?) the G5 takes. You're sitting there using his mouse to aim and fire for him (because he's on the phone or something and you're bored shitless), and you're aiming STRAIGHT at every kraut coming around each corner, but... whaaat? Is the weapon jammed? No, it's just CoD2, guns don't jam here. Is the game frozen? No, the silly nazi is running around in circles in front of you thinking you're afk and getting ready for the bash. Has some retard rebound your controls? No, can't be, because you're not spamming "SMACK THAT" via chat. Of course, must be that the mouse button (despite how it feels) requires an extra elephant on top of it to push down.

Plus the bloody buttons are inverted - they're hollows in the mouse, instead of bumps. Just adds to the 1KG weirdness.

REMEMBER, MY FELLOW LANNERS:

GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE,
AND NEITHER DO RAZER COPPERHEADS.

Joshu

Scrollwheel on them rocks too, with the clicker removed.

Seriously, give Frosto's Copperhead a chew sometime, it sucks.

i have an OEM MS black KB and mouse - i love it.
MS Wheel Mouse Optical - nice and symetrical.

and its cheap so i can nut out on it and it won't cost too much to replace.

Having a read of Richo's article, the Fatal1ty 1010 looks like a brick!
http://www.esreality.com/?a=longpost&id=1265679&page=18

To me it looks like a overly small, badly designed mouse. Has anyone seen one in RL? If so, is it really that bad?

Ratrick
04-02-2007, 04:38 PM
the idea of it is that it's overly small though, so that you hold it in your fingers rather than your palm - apparently its better for fps. imo though its not worth the advantage for the comfort you're sacrificing.

Zender
04-02-2007, 07:29 PM
I see. I would have imagined you would get quite bad hand cramps etc if your hand wasnt comfortable.

Very unusual.

ITs a razer diamond back - And it was a great mouse, but it's all jammed up and crap :P

I'd love it if it had sensitiviy on the fly (it's meant to, but the software is broken on it) So thats what makes a G5 so appealing for me.

I need to clean out my mouse, but there is some thing i'd like to say about the Razer - It's freaking sensitiiv as. I like my mouses so i barely move my hand to look at what i need to.

Zender
04-02-2007, 11:14 PM
G5 on 2000 dpi mode would be the same though, yes? Plus with the software installed (yes thats right, it switches between 400/800/2000 with out sw) you can have 5 fully customisable levels of sensitivity on the fly!(I dont work for Logitech)

I almost bought a razer thought - decided to stick with the tried and true Logitech shape though.

FROSTY BoSkitzo
05-02-2007, 12:18 AM
Aye, in retrospect i'dve gone the G5, but the Razer was cheaper at the time
