I bought one today - super cheap, too... $450 for the console, an extra controller (didn't realise it didn't come with a nunchuck thing though >:() and a copy of Zelda. Haven't even played Zelda yet, been addicted to Tennis :D.

It is fucking awesome and everyone should buy it.

OK - so after a few hours playing I'm pretty done with most of the games on Wii Sports and Wii Play. Boxing is definitely the best. Zelda is not my sorta game but seems popular. Red Steel looked like it had some potential with the whole sword fighting thing. Don't think anyone had tried COD3 and Cars yet. More updates is if I ever get time to play...

The control mechanism if hard to adapt to but very very cool.

Red Steel is awesome, I finished it tonight, though I think there might be 2 endings, not sure having tried yet. It might take a while to get used to the Red Steel feel but once you've been playing for a bit it'll be 2nd nature.

One thing I don't like about the Wii is it isn't for hardcore gamers, I ran out of batteries 2 times in the last 3 days.

Sadly enough I like that movie and not just because the actress who played Relic Hunter strips naked in it. :P

As for the Wii I played a tiny bit of boxing and bowling, not quite sure what to make of it.
I wouldn't mind playing RedSteel because it looks like a decent sized game with better graphics then Wii Sports, and of course it has GUNS and SWORDS and human-size characters. :)

Haven't touched a PS3 yet, didn't really ever like the first 2 playstation's controls so I don't think i'll be begging to play Sony's third installment. No matter how shiny it's graphics will become or how awesome you say the tilt function is it still seems like a wireless PS2 to me. :)

Yeah Nipples briefed me on that, still as I indicated a PS3 with awesome graphics is still as worthless to me as the previous Playstations (I don't mind the PSP though).

I'm a Nintendo fanboy because I grew up with the NES then the N64 (SuperNES was ok, GameCube was less ok). :)

yeah, the only console manufacturer i never got into is microsoft... i owned a snes, mega drive 2, psx, n64, ps2, GB color and NDS. so nintendo is definately my favourite :)
playstation will always have a special spot in my heart though <3

console gaming is exactly that, exactly what YOU want. thats why they make them so extensively customizable now days. To me, console gaming is lying down on the couch for 4-5 hours at a time going all out at a game. This i can't see possible on the Wii.

before you say "BUT YOU CAN PLAY DIS GAME SITTING DOWN" thats fantastic, and im glad, but from my understanding, majority of the games on the Wii are made to be standing in front of the television, waving your arms in front of the tv.

This is once again going back to my theory (that is LARGELY supported on the internet) that the PS3 and the WII should NOT be compared (given they are both gaming consoles, they were designed for different markets) thats why one is so emphasized on hardware, and the other on the whole "fun and unique" side of things. IMO, both did very well in that respect (on that note, LOL @ sony hardware production issues).

a lot of the PS3 bugs seem to be software based, and just like the psp, i reckon that future firmware updates (haxxored or not) will make the consle wicked.

only way ps3 will become a dtr is if they give access to rsx, and thats highly unlikely
Maybe a pvr, the first console to replace the xbox, but drawing like 4x the power and making double the noise.
oh, and the 2 day boot time...
and what do ya mean 'to an extent' for external hdd support, the only thing ya can;t do is install games onto it.

a lot of the code of xbmc is taken from gnu, yes, but XBMC and all ur talking about is native xbox, not linux, which is why it boots by itself, and so damn quickly.
linux on the xbox is terrible slow.

no, there all (well, almost all) are coded with XDK, native xbox.
XDK is the Xbox software development kit.
because the copy of that they use is not liscenced, the binaries produced are illigal, hence, why there not publically available for download.
if they were linux, theres no legalities about having them widely available on every forum and website.

The PS3 is fine under normal gaming, sitting on dashboard, it is just warm to the touch, same as 360..
it only becomes the george forman grill when playing HD movies in linux...
which also tells you how 'unused' the power of the machine is in the current games.

I am reinstalling gentoo again, stripping it to be as bare as possible, rpm based packages and distros make me sick... 1 1/2 days and I cracked and have to go back to gentoo :)
eventually I'll get the ps3 running mythtv, and replace my sexbox media center

dude you are doing exactly what i want to be doing. ive used XBMC for ages, and when i heard you could run linux on the ps3, its gotten my hopes up. even if i do use someone else dist (possibly ps3 specific, in future) i can imagine someone making some wicked ass media prog with tons of codecs, real nice GUI and shit
