View Full Version : Your Rights At Work!

Hi Guys,
Here's a handful of photo's I took on Thursday at the rally! I was marching for you younger buggers so that you get a fair go in the future when you finally get off your lazy apathetic arse's and get jobs ;) Remember, mummy and daddy won't be around forever, one day you're going to have to work to buy your own hair dye and skateboards! :P
Also for you guys who are 17 or turning 17 soon, I urge you to visit http://www.rockenrol.com.au/ and register to vote! You could win tickets to the big day out, but more importantly, you can secure your right to vote against the government who is hell bent on the stripping you of your rights at work. They have introduced a sneaky little rule this year, as soon as the election is called, you will not be able to enrol... why have they done this, well... why do you think? They say it's to stop fraud... but on a completely unrelated note, you know who leaves enrolling to the last minute? That's right, young buggers, and you know who young buggers have historically voted for? Labour and the Greens! Bit of a coincidence wouldn't you say...
Cheers Guys!

copypasta, for those who have been left blissfully in the dark, like me:
The Federal Government's new industrial relations laws mean big changes for Australia's workers. The laws favour individual agreement making over the protections previously afforded by awards and collective agreements.
Agreement making under the federal government's changes will lead to a reduction in wages and conditions for workers.
All employment, whether covered by an award or not, can be offered on the condition that a worker sign an individual agreement that 'bargains' away basic entitlements.
Employees can lose basic entitlements such as:
public holidays
rest and meal breaks
incentive-based pay
annual leave loading
allowances
penalty rates and overtime, and
control over your hours and rosters
Employers also have an unfettered right to dismiss staff due to operational requirements and then offer back employment under an individual agreement.
This means you could lose the extra money you previously enjoyed for shift work and overtime and time off to spend with your family over the weekend and even on public holidays.
The only legally enforceable minimum conditions are annual leave, personal leave, parental leave ordinary hours and a minimum wage.

If you click the image in my sig you'll be taken to the campaign page, it explains how bad you're getting F'ed in the A... these are things that most of you (and by you I mean the majority of our demographic which is school aged dudes) should not have to think about, but unfortunately the quality of your life after you leave school is being effected by decisions made by these r-tard's now. If we don't cut the cancer out soon it's going to be inoperable...

that is an interesting point you make, it completely boggles my mind to wonder why the government introduced all this legislation despite the public backlash it has caused. it is pretty much a suicide policy, and who does it benefit except greedy employers?!

It benefit's big business, you know, the people who ex-primeministers/ex-premiere's get "consulting jobs" with after they leave office for HUGE salaries... can anyone say "kick back"... This is a simplified way of looking at the situation, but we know there is something wrong with the system... we don't want to become "lil' America" which is where we're heading. If you think that sounds good, check out how the other half live in the states...

Is anyone really that shocked that the people in charge take care of themselves and then ocassionally throw the little guy a bone? It's fucking disgusting that in a democracy they go against the majority and introduce this bullshit.

yeah. i mean sometimes (and when i say sometimes, i mean very rarely) a government has to do something unpopular for the benefit of the country, but this has no benefits for the majority of australians. it really sucks.

It benefits business owners though, I'm sure they are aroused at the very mention of workplace reform.

Next rally we have is going to be on a weekend, sick of the media saying "it was a failure, blah blah", when some people just can afford to take a day off, have a morgage or family to take care of, or have been intimidated at work and feel if they strike they'll get the sack. So when we do one on Saturday, we'll see how many people attend then!

Isnt voting, just voting for the lesser evil?
Anyway, last time i checked (admitedly a while ago) all the states of australia were labour - but because of the democrats liberal coatlition they still held federal government - if thats a vote for seats, just having more ballaratians vote for labour wont claim labour more seats, just a firmer grip on one.

I would vote for Satan if he promised to get rid of these IR laws! This campaign is to raise awareness before the next federal election! The campaign isn't really a pro-labour campaign, it's not really a political campaign at all, it's a union campaign about how our rights at work are getting eroded. We are at a fork in the road, at the next election if Johnny remains... to put it lightly, we're all f'd... Just talking about it here is getting awareness out, I mean you guys have been made aware of whats happening and are starting to talk about it/research what's going on! <borat> GREAT SUCESS </borat> ;)

I'll bet my prized left nut that Johnny won't get re-elected. Filthy slimey little fuck. And give those eyebrows a trim.

yes, i reckon too. labor are the only party with a realistic chance to beat liberal, and they are a bunch of hopeless dickholes. i was talking politics with a few 'late baby boomers' last night, and it is surprising how many of them really couldn't care less about the IR laws (well, not enough to be swayed from johnny), seeing as they are coming up to retirement soon! so, as much as i hate to admit it i think he might be here to stay - doesn't mean i'm not going to do everything i can to stop it though!

what nick is saying is that he's now recruiting men with experience in chemical warfare, homemade explosives, and crackshot riflemen.

since the edit button seems to have dissapeared in this thread, i'd also like to add that we should stage a military coup just like ... is it timor, at the moment?

Hey Kenny, good to see someone else in the lanning community was out doing their bit for their rights :D
Are you in a union or did you go up on ya own?
yay!
lets all enroll in the union and get a free cone when the cameras facing the other way!
non union don't get a joint, and arn't welcome in 'hiding places' (truth, location: port adelaide)
thats racism!
oh, wait... money
money buys cones, yay!!!
free cones, plus more cones = pass out in gutter and die.
every 'union' strong place I worked that push this exagerated view, are the fucking worst places to work
don't agree with all of the changes, but I see no point in joining in a rally or anything alike unless it involves nudism, drugs, and sex with random individuals in random places..
oooh, now that sounds fucking good!
cones, plus nude sex rally, plus more cones, die in gutter while having sex!
hmm, now, lets look at the other side
some cones, some sex, grow old, get no sex, die while driving a bus full of school kids killing everyone inside in a firery 'jet crash' style fireball explosion..
both sound so good!
hmm, don't get me wrong, I wanna see johnny gone as muc as the rest of you
the current legislation is working, its pretty fucked up if you look closely, this WOULD fix the issues in the current system, but leave it too open for exploitation, this has been done in the past, and 1/2 of employers remained genuine, and employees were BETTER OFF... but, the other half used every loop hole and fucked the employees over. thats when it changed to the current system, destroying the excellent flexibility that made many employers and employees much happier.
this is not the fix thats needed, this will reintroduce the issues already seen in the past, but if they have tightned it down, it may well be better off for both...
but if you trust anything said my johnny go jump in that glowing shit at smelters!
I don;t want to see labour in, I don't want to see johnny in, greens can burn in hell.
I vote for myself..
vote cvt!
I'll bet my prized left nut that Johnny won't get re-elected.
Yeah.... would be nice to think that, but been like that forthe last few elections.
the little coconut head always pulls something outta his arse (children overboard anyone?) that takes the focus and then adds spin.
Well ill be out helping ALP again for this election to try get little johnny out. Really hope like fuck we get rid of him this time.
And if anyone else feels like actually doing something to help get rid of him, drop into Catherine king's office in lydiard st north and get added to the volunteers list.
or wait until nearer the election for the hippies.....er, greens get a office set up and help Tony Kelly out. (that if, if hes running again, and yes thats paul kellys brother)
there was 1 thing in greens whateveryacallit last election I REALLY liked.
legalising marijuana... lol ... they musta been so stoned when they typed up that shit :P
