SLI - that one you mentioned or Abit AN8 32X... take ya pick, both are awsome.
the fanless HT keeps it cooler than the cpu, there otes system works damn awsome.. so don't think it would be hot or anything :)

Crossfire - AT8 32X.. the rest are poo, especially any based on the xpress200 chipset

The dfi xpert is a decent board for 'tweakers' ie experienced overclockers. Not the best choice for people who want to things to work first time no issues, an abit or asus board would be a better choice. Also the xpert has a chipset fan, best to avoid if you can (tend to wear out after a while, rather noisy).

DFI have got a better name than they deserve, they are no better than abits or solteks for overclockers/tweakers and do work fine without doing anything like that to them.

he wants to mod up his case, so the dfi was his preference after he found out they have uv reactive parts.

hahaha, there a good board! :)
but the yellow/orange UV shit is the thing I hate the most :p

orange UV reactive is plain. UV reactive heatshrink is win. UV reactive ink. UV reactive liquid in watercooling systems. UV reactive pets.

well he's right, mobo, ram are the most important (and often forgotten factors), along with a good PSU.
the rest is all up to choice.

Abit, DFI and Soltek are all just as good as each other..
DFI definatly comes in 3rd place overall, but some of there boards are awsome.
as long as ya make sure its not one of there (unfortyunately of a fair few) dud models, your getting a good board.

E: btw, i couldve sworn i told you they were uv reactive :P after i showed you the abit ones.

i really shouldn;t be posting my opinion in this thread but meh,
i have owned number of DFI mobo's, i think there simply the shit!!! but that's my bias for the product not the name!!! A-bit also a very fine chioce, soltek i don't think so much of (bad experience once) anyway i have a DFI NF4 ultra -D (bridge modded to Sli -D) this board hasn;t missed a beat. I wouldn;t worry about the DFI chipset fans on the ultra boards, they have magnetic tip bearing fans, the chances of them "wearing out" or becomming "noisy" are minimal but will age like any other fan. anyway DFI are great if you expect far to much from your hardware, and that your not affraid to push your hardware to the ultimate limits.
but if extreme overclocking isn;t really your thing, A-bit FTW...
cvt is right that DFI have not the name they diserve.. quote from PCgamer mag "DFI still king right?" not any time soon would be the answer to that!!!

I had one super bad experience from DFI.. anyone who wants to try out what a BAD motherboard is. go get there xpress200 board ;)

Abit lost this about 2 years ago
they were near cease of business about 3 months ago... been in deep shit for a couple years.
thats when they dumped the 'uber' overclockers range, but kept making above average with awsome stability, gave DFI a spot to slip into.
company statement is 'there getting back to there roots'
finances can do amazing things :)
so should be good :)

(I'm not the only person who gets excited about mobo's am I ? :P)

xpress3200 is tits mate.... there first one sucked..
nv did much teh same with there first NF board.
Abits xpress200 board has NONE of the issues DFI's has except for the lack of performance.
its more than the chipset to blame.

I always believed that A-bit were a great overclocker, but your right by what you say!! the majority of mobo's i have ever used up until the greatest mobo i ever owned NF7-S were all great stabile overclockers... but yeah a matter of time a-bit will have the crown soon enough...

ohh yeah the Ati 3200 chipset can leave most nV chipsets for dead these days,. but man fuck that x200 chipset... since it's release of that specific chipset i assumed it would stay on the low end manufacturer like ASrock? but DFI made yet another poor chioce...

seeing Abit release a x200 suprised me, they said the weren;t going to because the chipset wasn;t up to there standard...
then a few months later they announce it.. but they did get it working better than the other manufacturers..

on another note... I'm banned on DFI forums :)
I asked if the cfd200 was faulty.. deary me, they blames every peice of my hardware regardless of what I said.. impossible something could be wrong with a dfi board, let alone be a dude model,
so I told them what I thought after 3 days of this shit.
7 day ban, got back on, said it all over again.
7 day ban
got back on, linked them to every site saying how shit the board was.
permentant ban
:p

(yes.. this board was soo bad I thought it was RMA material... not just a bad model :P)

Sacren.. whcih is "that board"?. not that it matters, any of them mentioned other than the one aphex and me talking about.. makes it a good choice ;)

ASUS boards have always been a fav of mine - if you are looking for a board with all the goodies - Try an ASUS AN8 SLI priemium or AN8-32 SLI Prem.

Both are shit hot boards and will be around for a long time - your not a fan of ASUS boards much at you andrew?

:P

I agree with madcap. The Asus AN8 Sli series awesume mobos, but I personally prefer Abit. I have an AN8 Fatal1ty SLi and it kicks arse. I would recommend checking out this board before you buy a new one.

I got nothing against asus, but they are not that impressive.
they have a lot of shit boards, and those that are good are only on par with the better companys..
there very much a consumer board, better than gigabyte and msi, but there nothing technically impressive..
there a stable board (as a general rule), and the ones you mentioned are ok..

so.. thats a no, I'm not ;)

Having built a few boxes with the Fatal1ty boards - find that they have really skimped on back plate addons

2 fans and a couple of usb ports and a GB NIC? its so barren its not funny

Even from a gamers perspective - i just dont like those boards, yes they are quick but not functional by any means - but as x-zempt said - its very much worth a look - you might like the baord - but it doesnt have any heat pipes!

if ya want features and heaps of ports, the dfi nf4sli are nice..
got one of those in my server (cos I needed 1x gb and 1 other nic, and atleast 7 sata)

both the high end DFI and Asus boards are feature packed with all the goodies one could ever want, i personally love the dual gigabit ethernet option with my DFI NF4 Sli-D and more than enough USB ports than i know what to do with... there almost the same in reliability, overclockability etc, but if your dieing for HEATPIPE then asus would be the go, personally heatpipe dosn;t do it for me, and if and when it does there are after market heatpipe coolers that would be all to easy to get!!!
