 Ok so i'm wanting to move back to Ballarat, currently i'm living on the NSW south coast, I have lived in ballrat a few years prior to living up here, was more of a move for work etc, anyway work has ceased contract on me, and i thought i'd come here and ask you guys if there are any places in Ballarat to consider living in or to stay away from?
If it were just me i wouldn't care, but because i'm on the look out for the saftey of my 2 children, and miss's it has to be a safer more respectable area of town. so any suggesstions would be appreciated!!! -Cheers

Respectable areas in Ballarat???
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA BALLARAT RESPECTABLE AAAAAAHAHAHAHA
Sebas + Wendouree West get pretty bad raps, heaps of derro people there it seems. Mt Helen, if you can find a place there, is pretty respectable, same with Mt Pleasant.

Disclaimer: Don't take my word as gospel, I live 10km out of Ballarat. :P

I live, work and study in Mt.Helen. As has been said already - it's a pretty good area.

OK. Wendouree and Sebas aren't too flash, and Delecombe is headig that way. I live in Lake Gardens, it's good, it's very respectfull but maybe a bit dull. Quite close to the city center and if you shop around it's not too expensive. 230-260k for a average 3 bedroom house, bout $250 a week if you wanna rent. City Center is nice also, and it's not to expensive at the moment, Ballarat East is a really nice area of Ballarat aswell. I don't like Alfredon personally, but ti's perfectly safe and respectfull. Mt Clear, Mt Helen, Mt Pleasant and Canadian are a bit far out for my liking.

I am in the same position as SPOT. Near the Uni, its a great place... the neighbors are either friendly or quiet around these parts ^_^. Mostly friendly, yeah if you get a house around here make sure you have a nice warm jacket or a good heater for winter :P

Beware of areas with shopping trolleys on houses front lawns, that is a sure sign of westie activity.

As I said, avoid Sebastopol and Wendouree West...

Yeah joshu is right, also avoid delecomb, Some places in Ballarat north. Your best bet is Black Hill, Lake Gardens, Ballarat City, Alfrenton - Ignore what Nipples says it is about 2 extra minutes from lake gardens. Also try a few area's in Ballarat East. Take it from a Pizza Delivery guy who has a vested interest in the ballarat Real Estate

I didn't say Alfredon was any further out, I just said I didn't like it personally. Too many dickheads with too much time on their hands live around there. But that's just my opinon, and I'm only basing this off someof my friends who live there, and me spending time at their house.

i think the same thing... i'm more for the colder climates myself...
but as long as there's adequate heating etc when i need it, then it's all good...

but i hate after a couple of hours gamming in a cold room, your hands are basically fucked... if ya know what i mean? lol

yeah, i know what you mean. the good thing about computers though, you dont really need a heater if your room is small enough!

I find Alfredton is really good, although it is a fair way from anything decent (ie food shops) and it is certainly a respectable part of Ballarat.

But, apparently there are few that stereotype the rest of us alfred-i-tons ;)

Whoa, I didn't know you were moving out man! That's fuckin cool! So I take it your moving in the process of this year yeah? Are you worried about that messing with your year 12 (extra stress etc)? Because that's what's always put me off from moving out next year (when I'll be doing year 12). But that really is cool man, you'll have to show me the joint once your in :)

North Ballarat and Black Hill are areas I accidently left off my reccomendations list, you might want to be a bit picky though if you were looking in those areas though, the majority is fine, but there's a few dodgy pockets... Generally I'd say that the areas of North Bal and Black Hill closer to city center have a higher likelyhood of being dodgy. Zenon and Random Hero, remmember that time those pack of westies were just hanging out on the street corner? That could have been REAL bad, they had a full intention to bash us :dead . But yeah, I'd say that that was just a rare incident that could happen in any area... especially somewhere like Ballarat

i would suggest Buninyong i guess, i lived there for 18 years, its VERY un eventfull and very safe, and its only another 5 minuets out if your concidering around the uni anyway. :) you can get more into the bush or town in and around buninyong, there is alot of choice.

You are always going to have a few hiccups where ever you go, but, you have read the recommendations, take note of these, yet, do not generalise everyone under that opinion. Places like sebastopol have bad rep, because of a minimal few, and im sure as hell my grandma ain't leaving trollys around. I guess, what im trying to say is, not every one is a dick head...but they are out there.
