Plus it's shit with small numbers and I usually get in the game after a 5 minute wait... Not a good network game. I like the current line-up, I'll just have to learn how to play Battlefront :). The other day Bignick was so kind to inform me that you can lock in people with missiles (after he killed me a dozen times). Steep learning curve for simpletons like me.

Yeh. We are all into BF2 and BF1942 and will be very willing to team up to fight. BF2 isnt really designed for small numbers so a 10v10 comp on a smallish map would be good.

Doesn't look like it. See SPOT's post in this thread. The 3 major comps are usually current games, not old + busted shit like BF2. They tried to run a BF2 comp, but noone would team up, or everyone would wait to the last minute to get their patches up to date. Same as the BF1942 + BFV comps with the patches. (as I said, ask madcap_magician about that...)

Dear new guys, I personally love BF2, it's worth every cent I paid for it, but people get bored of it really quickly at the lan, apart from the fkn technical problems people have with it. That's why we don't play it anymore, it had it's day and will not be coming back to the lan lineup anytime in the near or distant future. You really would have come to some of the lans where we did play it... and the shit storm it created EVERY TIME! It just ruins a good lan. So RIP BF2... FOREVER!

So how about the latest DBZ Budokai, seriously, you might hate DBZ, but the games are sooo fast paced and fun! Just unlock some characters beforehand though, it doesn't take long.

I found, for those who are interested an ANTI-LAG hack. the generals.dat file has a nasty memory leak issue, by changing its system priority to LOW, it stops it eating through high amounts of memory and setting generals.exe to High/realtime you get so much better game play.

Since that review it has been patched more so it doesn't crash anywhere near as often as it used to and all the maps work, yet No Mans Land is still the best. All the bugs that remain in the game just make it funnier and more unique (unlike BF2 bugs, which annoy the crap out of me). Most people haven't played it because it was badly publicised on release and the single player's just crap. But since then the patched up multplayer has become a great treasure for those who get their hands on it.

It's a mix between quake and battlefield alot of people reckon, heaps of weapons and items to pickup (no strict kits like in battlefield) and it's CTF based (instead of conquest). There's always a vehicle for everyone too, motorbikes, blimps, helicopters, bi-planes, all with good old arcade physics. :D

Although Codename Eagle (CE) is a novelty game in itself, it's probably not the most suited game for a lanx competition, because a couple of people who've already played it will have a fair advantage over the other players. So we'll just play it casually this time, it's fun for fighting and just mucking around in.

You have to be an arcade game fan, that looks past graphics and presentation to judge games on their gameplay, for you to truely appreciate Codename Eagle. :)

Just backing up that bladia - the scorched 3d is good - runs well on lower end pcs, but has some eyecandy for higher up dones. It has lots of mods available, and LOTS of weapons choices - you don't know what kind of crazy crap the other guy can fire at you, so you always have to plan for it.

As well as that, it has other mods like say armageddon, randomly generated maps, and a fewe hundred models to choose as your "tank"- thinking of all this, how about worms maybe? although thats a tad spammy.

And it fits in to what spot says - turn based means you can grab a bite or yabber a bit while waiting for next turn.

Has anyone actually played CS like ever. If you actually have you'd notice thats nothing like what everyones saying it is. There are very few hackers and the occasional whiney 12yo who can easily be ignored. As for all the crap people type in the chat bar, who says you have to read it or take offence to it, just ignore it. And as for being called a hacker (presuming you're not), take it as a compliment because it propably means you pwning those noobs. By discriminating against what could be now considered a genre of its own you're really only screwing yourself because you're the one missing out on the hours of fun that cs can be and the HL mods can be. Either way you've gotta stop having such a teary about a game.

As far as mod possibilites go (open source, engine limits etc) HL is a great engine for it's time with dozens of fan projects and millions of players, although it's been dieing down since mods have come out for HL2. It's still rare to find a decent engine that isn't hardcoded and restricted from it's full modding capability.
Disliking the HL engine and all it's mods just because one of those mods is CS makes no sense. Counter Strike's gameplay and it's common player characteristics (the "degenerates") are a result of the desicions of the CS mod development team, not Half Life or any of it's other mods.

My rash assumptions werent about you, they were about other people who openly admitted to only playing cs for like 2mins. Im not saying you have to like cs or anything but im just saying you should be more accepting to the fact that different people like different games. Like i dont play barbie horse jumping or anything but it really wouldnt bother me if you did, and certainly wouldnt go out of my way to flame you for doing so.

As for lans ive had 6 and been to a further 20 or so (including a LANX last year, cant remember which, it was at the uni, probably 13 or 14) so keep that in mind. Plus i play online a fair bit.
