After tolerating the constant harrasment, threats and intimidation from Greenpeace and Sea Shepard fanatics in the seas off Antarctica the Japanese whalers have finally struck back.

The Japanese are now talking about deploying "Police Aircraft" (read: F16's) against the terrorist fleet thats tracking them.

Frankly, I'd rather see the destroyer which they talked about last week sent in.

Hunting whales is no different to farming pigs.

If groups like Sea Shepard and Greenpeace want to crap all over maratime laws and act like pirates (sea shepard claim responcibility for sinking two whaling boats a few years back, and have attempted to sink ships during this whaling season) then the whalers should be able to defend themselves with excessive force.

Yes but there are a lot more sheep around then minky whales, i'm in agreement with loki on the enfocing of maratime law, however if they wish to hunbt whales why not choose a species that is not on the verge of dying out, and if there are none then they should wait until the numbers return to a stable level regurdless of the time it would take.

Just out of curiousity, is the area which they are whaling in in international waters? or the waters of a country?

International waters.

Some of it is near/in the Australian Antarctic Territory however the Antarctic Treaty abolished all legal claim to territory in Antarctica.

what crap..
pigs, (not talking about cops, there in a plague and need to be shot, but that aside), are farmed in a controlled enviroment, culling only those that should be, keeping the numbers as needed.
ie, culling them no faster than they breed, or slower to increase numbers when needed.
culling more than the speed they breed is wiping them out, doesn;t happen, at all.
if numbers are low, or they are sick, they would work on getting numbers up and getting a better line before culling again/

killing whales quicker than they breed naturally with no method of regulating the population is wiping them out, not farming them.
