I need somebody to do me some tests on line speed for Neighborhood Cable - is upload speed really limited to 128kbps, or is it 10mbps both ways? Their site only shows ADSL rates (256/64, 1500/256) so now I'm confused.

Post results of both upload and download speed tests.
This is NOT an e-penis measuring competition; if you're not on Ncable, don't be posting your 56k test results.

That's pathetic, isn't cable supposed to be able to download at 10mbps on a good day?

I will check the off peak speeds later on tonight, and again tomorrow about lunch when kids havn't gotten home from school and are all using NC's crappy servers. Generally cable should do pretty well but Ballarat Neigborhood cable have gone with all ex-telstra products, and still use Win ME on their servers.

I want tests at peak times if possible. I'm thinking of running a game server, but can't find a good cheap connection.
(anyone know of any good cheap hosting? NOT web hosting, server hosting, 5mbps connection both ways or more)

either way ncable isnt a good idea, its upload IS limited as to say its VERY unsymmetrical, cant tell you off they top of my head but its maybe 150KB/s ill check at the end of the week for ya. but i know its pretty shit for the cost
as for downloads ive got up to 800KB/s so arounds 6.4Mb/s and maybe 1.2Mb/s
but as i said, i can get you a better number soon :)

I seriously want to run this games server, but the sheer cost of colocation is ovewhelming. :( If I had a job I _might_ pay the $250/month that some extortionists ask.

25kb/s upload 209kb/s down at 10:35pm
the next thing though is i have downloaded off fileplanet at 1.2 megabytes per second.
a very irratic connection me thinks. perhaps not use for anything that needs to be stable ;)

yeah its very irratic, you can get awesome fast speeds however very slow speeds ( to what it should be ) which its pretty irritating

Seems funny how they charge out the arse, so their network couldn't be that stressed.

that test site is shit, at least for aussies. It just measured my connection at 0.5Mb down when i can easily get 7.6Mb on local and international files ..

Yeah it's very erratic, but I couldn't find any Australian upload test sites.

tcpig.com download = 2194.41 KBits/sec - 74.30 KBytes/sec. Upload = 606.84 KBits/sec - 75.86 KBytes/sec
dungogtlc.org did not work
zdnet = 4677kbps = 4.6 mbps
these seem like more respectable results though still not perfect

J,
when i was on nCable it was unlimited i have no idea what it is now, anyway 10mbps is the maximum line speed for Coxial, but i could download at 3mbps max on a good day a little less on peak,,,
upload was much the same especially between local ncable users, using msn6.2 was a good version for file sharing... i got Paris hiltons sex tape over it from a local ncable buddy... hehehe... 256Mb file size i think i got it down in about 45 mins... aint too bad...
but again i have no idea what it's like no days...
another little thing of interest, i have not used ncable in almost 1yr, and i still have my ncable e-mail account... with 1000 odd emails... that's service for ya.. BAHAHAHA :gs
