View Full Version : r520 finally!.. crossfire getting closer
As anyone following the ati/nvidia scene already know (but since a lot of people knew nothing of the 7800gtx till it was pretty much on the shelves..
http://www.anandtech.com/tradeshows/showdoc.aspx?i=2433
We all seen/heard of that in june.. the first news of nvidias and ati's new chips.
which was the first I learnt of crossfire, competition to SLI?
this is the first review of crossfire (that I know of)
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2477
not even close to release and already offering competition to SLI...
but the r520..
google yourselves for the info..
but it was what was promised a month after the x800 comming out..
"oh no, we fucked up, next card will have PS3"
well, 850 didn;t, but this one does, plus some other "goodies"
and joshu... that is basically the one and only site I visit.. before you comment :)
cos unlike others, there not biassed and are reliable, and usually the first.
but they don;t report crap :P

Wasn't about to comment on Anandtech, I don't have an opinion on tech sites... usually.
crossfire, competition to SLI?
A rabbit dosed up on caffeine and wizz fizz would be competition to SLI. How about: "crossfire, competition to nVidia's 6xxx range?"?

yeah would have top agree with joshu, reveiws of crossfire seems to suggest that the cossfire is nothing to awesome.
it in its current state cant even provide decent support for AA and i have difficulty beliving it will be easy to get working becouse of the tiled nature of the image
i hope they write some bloody good drivers
also the introducion of the 7800GTX and more recently a more mainstream 7800GT has seen the price of the 6800/6600 models plummet. ATi now has an uphill battle on both the highend and midrange cards, where ATi has only one option. to drop the price on their midrange cards AND put out a highend card that can compete with the 7800GTX/GT
and it wouldnt help to releace things properly not JUST on paper :|
RTFP.. RTFN
and then you'll realise the 2 of you just made total idiots of yerselves.
Joshu - crossfire isn't only on the x8xx series, its also going to be on the r520
you can;t expect the generations to compete.. or can you (looks back where people compare 6600GT and 9600xt)
use common sense man
Peter - Funny this is, is its nowhere near release,, did you read that aswell?
in its current state.. you mean... undeveloped? yeh, maybe, there tearing isn;t even implemented yet... onl;y supertiling, its only just started to work, the few reviews were just to show it had potential, not be a benchmark to go compare them with!
I kinda have a bad feeling about there drivers.. I for some reason see them having the same issues nvidia did when they first released the gf6.. hope I'm wrong, but both ompanies did/doing a huge change in drivers around the dual card support.
the last comment barely even merits comment...
The main point of the post was of the r520.. which IS the competition to the gf7
and to show that crossfire is finally working (in a raw and incomplete manner) (and no longer just a word ati have been throwing around with no real meaning)
no wonder people buy gigabyte motherboards

oh.. ati dropped there x800/x850 cards way before nvidia did, and futher than nv have dropped ther gf6, and they don;t even have the new one out yet.. more so... nvidia need to stop being such tight arses and follow suit.. not the other way around.

Really? I've always liked Gigabyte actually.
I've herd some terrible stories about them, but my last board (GA-7n400 Pro 2) and my current one (K8NS Ultra 939) have both done me proud.

buying a gigabyte is like gambling.. you may get a win, but yer a fuckwit for trying wether you do or not.
see if its still "stable as a rock" in 18 months.. even 12 months, and when you tell me it is, prove it with p95...
lucky to be 3/4 ever make it to a second year without being fucked..
I ahve a 5 year old gigabyte here still going, theres freaks.. just unfortunately, the freaks are the good ones :(
