there are jobs going at ibm so if anyone is interested pm me.

-----------------
We shall be holding a group day soon (depending on numbers, maybe two) and we're looking for suitable candidates to join our ranks. We need people across all teams - meaning that we have roles for people of all technical abilities.
ALL potential candidates must have attention to detail and a keen eye for procedures.
-------------------

if you want to work with me and HEAPS of other X'ers get onto it!!

30-07-2005, 02:26 AM
Not much i dont think.

They get you to fill out a pile of papers.

A Network troubleshooting one.
A general PC knowledge one.
A customer service one.
A IQtype one.

They will get you to do group activities. Then Tell you alittle bit of network troubleshooting stuff, then you'll do the network troubleshooting one again.

Then, you might get a second interveiw. Two people interveiw you. One will be reading from a sheet asking questions, the other writting stuff. (The one writting stuff is the decision maker BTW).

I think i didnt get job there cos of no drivers license :(.

kyzen
30-07-2005, 10:43 AM
Weird, cause spot doesn't have a drivers licence, and he got the job no problem... may have been their "no dero" policy?

*NoN*Da]rY*
30-07-2005, 11:28 AM
the one writing stuff is just the team leader... he doesnt make the decision... its the guy asking the questions cause hes the manager of the team they were gonna chuck you in.

- no license here either

I know how to turn on the puter, will that get me a job troubleshooting at ibm, or do you have real jobs, with real supervisors?

Eoin

I know a few people who have worked there for a few years now, and another bunch who just started training there. Knowledge about computers seems pretty optional from what I've seen.

knowlege is optional, depending on what kinda knowlege you got determines what team u get put in, also what hours you are willing to work

fuck-0-
31-07-2005, 11:55 AM
I’v worked there for like a year and a half...I think what they are really looking for is people with good communications skills.. Other skills would have to be organizational skills and be able to work under pressure...

SPOT what team do you work on?
Yeah IT skills are not essential, this may mean that you get on a team that they are not required... all I can say is get in there and have a go. The interview is an experience what ever happens.. if you do get a group interview PM me and ill give you some tips...

Just had my two-on-one interview with Peter Greenbank.

I think it went pretty well, apparently I was above average on all my tests and got a perfect on my LAN/WAN tests :)

They're calling everybody on Wednesday one way or another, so hopefully they'll be giving good news to myself and all the LAN-X members that have applied :)

Joshu
22-08-2005, 02:45 PM
And I'm just sitting here, wondering a few things, the least of which being what's so wrong with my resume that I didn't even get into group interviews for a bloody call center? How much do you guys (Loki, Ayden, Bladia) fib on your resumes?

Don't even bother with the personal attacks, by the way.

*NoN*Da]rY*
22-08-2005, 02:47 PM
Im just glad you respect me enough to not put me in your list Joshu :)

You've already got a job there Lee, I'm asking the applicants of this round how they all got in, how much dick they had to suck, etc. It's not a matter of respect, it's a matter of they're-the-guys-who've-mentioned-they-got-into-group-interviews-while-I-didn't.

Well most of it is the god's honest truth.

However, I was a little short of work experiance so I managed to make whole a half a page and two job titles out of the work I did for TC-LAN 1 :P

Ohh... and for skills theres a whole 5 lines dedicated to what is basically "I can use Microsoft Office atleast as well as mos peoplet".

Just out of curiousity, which CV did you send in Joshu? Was it the .pdf you posted a while ago?

Joshu
22-08-2005, 03:49 PM
I sent my real resume. Only thing I can see on it that'd be the total downfall is the "Completed Year 10 at Damascus College" bit.

[TC] Loki
22-08-2005, 04:02 PM
Well heres what I sent off.

It's all complete, except the phone numbers and the written reference (which I never actually gave IBM).

*NoN*Da]rY*
22-08-2005, 04:26 PM
so yours was the PDF Joshu!

i know the guy that was processing all the resumes, and TBH i belive having it as a PDF was a down fall.... he didnt seem impressed with getting a PDF.... is all im saying.

Peter
22-08-2005, 04:30 PM
finally, someone else that doesnt like PDF's. I really dont like em for some reason...

Joshu
22-08-2005, 04:53 PM
I didn't used to like them much either, but they make a fuckload more sense on the formatting side of things. I don't know the version of Word you guys at IBM use, so my resume formatting might make the thing look like utter shiath. They take a long time to open, but at least they look like they're supposed to.

PLUS they don't contain whatever shit MS Word saves (like your license ID, or previous formatting... I've heard several stories).

is there much of an age difference ?

the not having finished VCE probably doesnt help :(

Bladia
22-08-2005, 06:11 PM
personally I licked/kissed no as to get where I am,

I agree i don't mind the .pdf either, but to send a CV in as pdf ????? otherwise it was pretty good, however from an employers standpoint your employment history should be right after you personal info, any good employment agency would have fixed that for you. But like everyone else you probably hate them too. So screw it and those dicks at best, tracy's ETC

Joshu
22-08-2005, 06:22 PM
is there much of an age difference ?
Between me and Loki? He's about four months older than me.

the not having finished VCE probably doesnt help :(
As I said, that's the only part I can find which is a major downfall... it's a cryin' shame that schools don't tell you that completion of VCE is all that employers look for, and it doesn't just count for your Uni entrance.

I've been over the layout of my resume a few times and it makes perfect logical sense; all the stuff about me on one page, and all the stuff I've done on the other page.

zyaN
22-08-2005, 06:51 PM
... it's a cryin' shame that schools don't tell you that completion of VCE is all that employers look for, and it doesn't just count for your Uni entrance....
.
Correction : "it's a cryin' shame my school didn't tell...."
My school has every bleeding meeting, conferance,
information handouts you could ever think of
.....too much to say the least, but very informative.

Otherwise, your resume layout is fantastic and is, in my opinion, great for PDF...but i totally agree with your thoughts on MSWord....you can't luck it and find out that your .doc turned out like shiath once they have received it. It is a let down really, whereas Adobe = Reliable, Professional etc..

radass
22-08-2005, 10:14 PM
Yeah, some completely pissant manager getting shitty about the file being in pdf format is of course rediculous. it's not like it's obscure .. but that's managers for you

As for VCE, are you seriously surprised that people would hold that against you? I mean, if you have 100 resume's and 5 jobs, the first thing you're going to to is bin 80 resumes as fast as you can. My advice to you is to lie; no one will ever actually check that you finished school, since pretty much everyone does.

I'm not buying this story about no one ever mentioning to you that it might be a good idea to finish school though :P

radass
22-08-2005, 10:49 PM
Even if they didn't, you're a smart guy, it should have been pretty clear to you that you'd be pretty disadvantaged by not doing it. In fact i'm pretty sure i mentioned it to you myself a couple of years ago :p

You shouldn't blame the school .. you made your decision dude. What about your parents? Everyone else you know? I doubt that you were completely unaware of the general perception surrounding your decision. I'd wager that you decided that you might have known better :P

But it's not too late to turn around and fix things! only 2 years to go .. why not go and do it at tafe?

or even better, you might be able to get into the tafe IT course. Do that for a year, and you'll probably qualify to get into a computing course at uni

I've made errors, but I like to read through a thread before I post in it so that I don't look like a total dumbass.

and yes, lie about your leaving school early... TBH, i've never had anyone ask me about my school experience...

1 - i sent my resume in PDF format. Like i'm gonna send it as a doc. Thats just gay.

2 - i haven't, will not, and don't see the point of finishing my VCE. 1 person i know actually put their VCE to good use.
everyone else has it to have it.

3 - my resume really had nothing much to do with education and computery type stuff. only pc related stuff is i run comps at lans.

4 - my resume also included a HUGE amount of army stuff, and not gay stuff, killy type stuff like, infantry courses, heavy weapons courses and the like. that should have put me at a disadvantage.

so don't worry joshu, i put my resume in twice, i think the first time was late, but keep trying, and its how you go in the interview and more of what you know rather than the what you were taught type shit that works.

They said they'd call yesterday, but by 1700 they hadn't, so I called Peter Greenbank on the odd chance that he might have an answer (other than "Fuck off and don't call my mobile again") for me (and because my friends were sick of hearing me bitch about it).

He said he had no idea who got the jobs, but that they were calling about half the people today.

Hey guys, I put my resume in about 5 times before I got there, went to 2 group days and 3 interviews, but between the 2nd and 3rd interviews, I got a temp job working at Ampol in Sebastopol. I swear to god that was the reason I got in the 3rd try. (Didn't need to go to the 3rd group day cause they knew me so well)

What do they want? **********************CUS TOMER SERVICE SKILLS******************* ******

Me trying to get in with just 2 weeks of work experience in 2000? Fuck that.

Joshu, IBM might not think that plaster fun house is enough customer service experience, but if you got a lot out of it, make sure to put that in your resume, something like "Excellent customer service skills" or some crap like that, cause basically a callcentre is all about customer service, and thats what they look for. Hope this helps dude.

We use Office XP, so formatting shouldn't be a problem for you guys.

UVR, i'll check with my team leader/bosses, I think Joe and/or Mick was interviewing you. Next time though, don't wear Elmo Socks. :P

28-08-2005, 06:47 PM
Was that in your resume? No, My point exactly. I didn't pick up much about customer service skills from your resume other than what was in the PFH job description. All you have to do is place "Excellent customer service skills" in the "Skills and Abilities" section, and you will get further with most jobs out there. You have to whore yourself out to these people or in other words sell yourself, because it takes fuck all time for employers to read resumes. if they look at your skills and see "Excellent Customer service skills", then they will probably think "Hey, this guy has customer service experience, lets look at his work history and see what he has done". They will look at the PFH section and go "Ok, lets consider this guy". Also, you can place some referee contact details on an extra 1/2 page and this wil not detract from the rest of your resume.

In case you are wondering: I AM TRYING TO HELP, I AM NOT BAGGING YOU OUT, DON'T BE SO FUCKING CYNICAL.
