WildDSL (http://www.wilddsl.com.au/wild_dsl_autumn2005.htm). $45/mo for 512/128 25GB, after the 25GB they shape you whenever they feel like it, I've never been shaped though. Static IP too. People on Whirlpool sook endlessly about the Veridas network and Veridas resellers but I've never had a problem with the network, pretty much full 51.2KB/s whatever I'm doing.
iiNet (http://www.iinet.com.au/). Probably a good choice for the future, a ton of people seem happy with their 1500/256 plan. iiNet's minimum plan is 1500/256, and they're ADSL2+ ready, pending rollouts of exchanges (meaning speeds of 12000/1000). Their prices are a fair bit higher though, and they really want you to go with their phone bundle.
You should have really visited this site first. (http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/)

I've heard good things about exetel and westnet. I'm with iinet for the > 1.5Mb speed -- but don't hold your breath for > 1.5Mb ADSL speeds in regional areas. Rumour is that telstra will allow it's network to get up to 6Mb sometime next year, once they have finished their DSLAM upgrades. Of course, they could go to 8Mb right now just by unlocking to full DSLv1 speeds .. but they wont.

tpg have a history of being a shit isp -- i'd spend some time reading the last few months worth of the tpg forum on www.whirlpool.net.au before committing -- it's possible they've cleaned up their act

Their DNS goes fucked quite often.

If people did that, they wouldn't buy ANY ADSL at all. People take time there to constantly bag out ISPs they've had problems with such as Veridas and TPG and even iiNet, and anyone who says "I dunno, I've had good experience with Veridas" is instantly labelled a fanboy and constantly flamed. You're seriously better off just looking at the plans and contracts and going with the best value for you; the people on the whirlpool forums are like the ultimate in Pissy Crap.

i used TPG dial up.. twas good, wouldent touch thier BB tho.
iiNet were reccommended to me by Dave and Kenny, they got a great track record and recently bought up Ozemail. Never had a drop outwith iiNet and never even had a ping spike from them. I hear they have the best tech spport, but i dont know cause i aint needed them yet cause their service has been flawless.
Upto you in the end, but i would rather pay extra $$$ and recieve a quality service then save a whopping $10 a month on somthing that performs for $30 less ;) i mean at the end of the day.... it does come down to $10 a month... so just take lunch from home instead of buying shit from the canteen at school :P

rY*']$10 a month...
That's enough to matter for people whose parents "budget".
dodo despite what you may think, gave me the best adsl service, specially for price..
while I was on my 1500 connection, I was doing 200gig+ per month, every month, and they never complained once, cut me, or speed limited me.
and I always had my nice solid 167kB download, thats all I want.. and they delievered without issues.

but.. internode have got a gold track record with me, and when I move to geelong, if adsl2 is available, it will be a hard decision between dodo or internode.. if adsl isn't available, dodo again.. simple..
dodo dialup atm...

i had tpg dialup .. never got more than 3KB/s and had constant dropouts - on same modem and phoneline that yielded a perfect bigpond connection. Cheap though ..
For absolute perfect performance, and the best tech support, i'd go internode, they really care about their network. I noticed a distinct drop in the international bandwidth i had access to using a single connection when i moved to iinet. Course, with iinet, i can get 760KB/s so it wins hands down :D
iinet's support isn't great, i've had to heatedly argue with their first level people quite a few times before i was put on to someone who knew what they were on about - but this is understandable since most support questions are resolved by plugging things in or turning things on ..

I'm not sure I agree - it isn't hard to see the difference between pissy cunts and evidence of real problems that effect everyone.

It is for me, so it must be for at least one other person in the world I figure.
how about sign up with telstra!!!!!
that way ANY other ISP will look good after that!
and you won;t have to ask who the best is, cos you'll go to the first one you see, trying to get of bigpond asap.
