Console Events!!

[SPOT]

After seeing heaps of guys bringing consoles to X's and people playing the consoles for most of the saturday night.
I was considering running a console only event.
(mainly to stop the fact we would have all these random people come thru
and i don't want to expose your pc's to potential theft)

plus i know there are alot of people that don't have pc's and/or have/interested in consoles.

the setup would be along the lines of;
entry fee ($10 for 1 day, $15 for 2)
pay per comp (eg $2 to $5 for each comp you enter, goes into comp pot)
winners get 70% of pot
2nd - 20%
3rd 10%
all comps would be double elimination,
and it would be during the day only 10am-8pm etc, no staying overnight etc.

i was thinking of running some console events including;

Halo 2,
Street Fighter Games,
Super Smash Bros Melee,
Tekken 5,
Racing games,
Etc.

So if anyone would be interested or has any ideas please post them.
I am keen to get these going and would like some feedback.

hey stupid question how will you set it al up? as in we bring our own consoles and such and we run it thru the projector? or will there be a few tv's around.

i'll have tv's setup and there will be enuff consoles there.
it would be BYOC (bring your own controller) so you can play with the controller you prefer.
but a list of what we have/don't have would be online so you know if you need convertors etc.

yeah its all a bit dependant on the games tho.
i would like to see a racing game but you need to have the abiilty for people to use their own cars etc.
and make sure they can't cheat.
and most of all the game would be suited to a competition environment.
i'll be doing a bit more research (haha playing games) in the next few weeks to come up with some games.
but any suggestions are very welcome, cause i can't know all the games out there.

Console party, shit yeah. Apart from Street Fighter and CVS we could get KOF or Guilty Gear going (but not capcom fighting jam cos it sucks ass). Soul Calibur 2 would also be good, as would Tekken and maybe Virtua Fighter. But, fighters aside, we should play Mashed. Has anyone played Mashed before? 4 player bliss.

there would be less hassle for you guys, just rock up and play.
we would play games not normally played at lans, SSBM etc.
you get cash if you win, if you win :p.
consoles are cool and the difference compared to pc gaming is huge.
you don't need a console to enter etc, you just need to know how to or want to play.
the more people that enter, the bigger the winnings!!

so get back to me you foos, cause i want to run em.

i have been thinking and i reckon the console events will be going ahead.

the games will be as follows (with more coming);

Halo 2 2v2 Slayer - XBOX
Super Smash Bros Melee 1v1 - NGC
FIFA 2005 1v1 - XBOX/PS2

plus i want a driving game (prolly NFSU2),
maybe a diff sports game (if ppl would rather something else)
another fighting game (Tekken or Street Fighter).

in all i want 4-6 games.


i have chosen the above games cause FIFA and halo are WCG games,
so if you guys wanted to use our events to prac up for WCG quals or something.

please give me some feedback. i want to play what you guys want.

Hey, what about Burnout? That game was hella cool at the 2nd last lan. Mario Kart 64 will go off as well, if anyone wants to bring their 64.

Burnout (Whatever the lastest one is) - it's on Xbox and PS2, not really fussed about which one it gets played on. Seriously, the versus crashing comp thing (not suer of the actual name for it) is SO addictive and fun.

Also - Virtual Fighter 4 - PS2. REALLY good fighting game if you know how to play it... it is a fairly "pro" game though, as in, if you come in having never played it, you will get your arse handed to you. But as I said, if you know how, it's GREAT fun.

Yeah, Burnout would be a good non-combat console comp. Just gotta keep it small, like only 3 crash scenarios per player per round.

its an incredible game, in which you fight in pubs, clubs, or wherever,
fight for money, to buy more clothes, tats or bling, and for more stats to increase your skill..

one of the coolest bit aboot this game is the fighting styles, you start off with one, and as you go further in the game you get two more. they are kickboxing, martial arts, streetfighting, wrestling, and submissions.

if you combine specific styles together, you can get a kickass style, and spot you'll like this, I'm a kung fu enthusiast so i really got into this, theres styles like jeet qun do (i tihnk), two kinds of drunken boxing, conterweight styles, street brawling styles, muay tai kickboxing styles (Ong Bak, anyone?) and fuckloads more.



Jesperado and I have had 14 hour binge's of this game. It's really addictive. Balanced, you mean in fighting?

when your playing someone eles you get to choose between tthe made characters and the already in game characters (all real, all rappers/acters/producers) and thats pretty evenly matched no matter who you choose, apart from if you go snoop dogg which even then is beatable.

oh create a character, once you finish the game they will be at the same stage as the other characters, in the one on one battles.

if you create a character, basically it wont be as good as say, xzibit, or dan g, or anyone like that, until you finish the game. thats my understanding anyway.

theres more then enough characters to choose from though.

With Def Jam, I think what he's trying to say is that Player Created Characters are WORSE than the normal characters until you finish the game where they become equal. I guess you'd have to play it yourself to get the idea I guess.

i just got def jam, that game is crazy the fighting is just so brutal.

Well mines been been modded for 2 years now, dosnt matter what mod chip you use as long as it works. All it needs to do is run unsigned code. If the chip comes flashed with a bios that supprots LBA48 you can use any size hdd you like. If not reflash it. With the network side of things all you need to do is plug them all into a switch and the games sorts the rest out seems to work well. Midtown maddness is pretty good with 4 players.
