Hey Guys, Looks like the old Database is gone! So many posts sacraficed to the anger and greed of the internet gods. Sorry that their has been no updates as of late, don't worry though, our commitment isn't flailing, me and spot have been in meetings and getting more information, we want this set up right from the start so nothing comes back to bite us in the butt later on.
So guys, lets not lose the momentum that we had built up, you'll have to re-register unfortunately, sorry about the inconvinience, nearly as inconvinient as driving all the way to Geelong for nothing ;) /me looks at Mark sideways :p
hahah BAM!!
EVERYBODY LOVES HYPNOTOAD!!

All is looking excellent at the moment, we "SHOULD" be starting our small business course next week. Info will follow, and membership details will be us as soon as the constitution is changed, which is a big deal. Pages and pages and pages of legal stuff that we have to do!
But we can say that one of the biggest things that we will do is offer public liability insurance for members.

Well, me and Spot walked in, and went BAM at the selection panel. They went w00t and we got into NEIS, we lay all the other contenders to waste, there was about 50-60 people applying, and 20 places! We got the funk! We start on monday.

Nice.
TNW doesn't need a forum, but you could link to ours if you want...

Aye! :o LANX was on this weekend! You know how busy you get around LAN time ;)
We have been looking into using XBOX's as our linux network server! They are cheap, and will do the job well. Dave's dead sexy linux model is going to be great, we had a trial with an "alpha" version at LANX, and it was solid as!

but hopefully i'll get a chance to do it by the end of the year, and then i'll fill ya in on how it goes!

WD mate, congrats on that, we use TrustIX for our servers, awesome :)
Hey spot, you run a LAN, shouldn't you have money coming out of your orifice's? Cause you know all that money that you collect off people, you should have heaps

The only thing I found about TrustIX is about its security....and a few warnings....
What say you?

Trustix is a very clean distribution, with a focus on security and only essential services configured to start by defualt. I got pissy at distributions that carry 5 different applications for each purpose and installing a ton of bloat ...
Plus the distributions are maintained for a long period of time, and it's very simple to securely update packages as new versions are released or patches are back ported. On top of that there is a great low noise mailing list and active community ... the company makes it's money with commercial support contracts.
Works for me.
Just renamed to Tawie Server Linux (still TSL)

This distro looks interesting, i am downloading it now and will give it a go.
Have you had any issues with it so far?
radass
26-10-2003, 07:43 PM
well, nothing i would call an issue.
Until recently, Trustix 1.5 was the most recent version, and because that in itself had been around for a while, it was based upon the 2.2 kernel (and hence no iptables). So my standard setup involved a 2.4 kernel build, that's no biggie. Seriously, these guys do a great job of keeping it solid as a rock.
There has been a few minor issues with the 2.0 release, mainly just the ironing out of setup bugs and these are being dealt with as they emerge. To be expected of a .0 release really. I'd still use 2.0 in a production environment, no worries (If i had any reason at all to replace the 1.5 servers which have been running no worries for a year or so). But if you don't need the more advanced features of 2.0 (2.4 kernel, SMTP Auth, DSL out-of-the-box etc) then 1.5 is still worth a red hot go, as it will still be supported (kept up to date) for a long time yet. They still update their 1.2 release apparently.
The only thing i'd change about it, is to change the MTA to exim instead of postfix. Exim, if you haven't checked it out, is amazing. Well worth the time it takes to understand how it works.
Oh, and maybe chroot a few more services ...
