Addressing this before anyone gets asked stupid questions. Is there anything I missed?

"My computer won't connect to the network!"
or
"My computer won't show up on Dave's Nazi-tron!"
- Make sure your computer is plugged into the network, getting some lights near the port, and turned ON and booted into Windows.
- Make sure you have all settings set to "automatic".
- TURN OFF YOUR FIREWALL. Windows firewall is fine, ANYTHING ELSE you're better off turning OFF. Even if you don't THINK you've got a firewall installed, you probably do. Check in msconfig, on the "services" tab. See where it says there's a firewall running? Uncheck that checkbox, and reboot. No more firewall.
- Make sure you know your computer name. You can usually find this out by running "ping localhost" and it'll say "Pinging <computer-name> [127.0.0.1]".

"My computer just stopped networking!!"
- Check the network port for lights in back of your computer.
- Wait for Kenny to publically humiliate you and tell you you have a worm, over the microphone. You get disabled to stop the worm spreading and causing further mischief.

"My computer broke!"
- That's nice, how'd it do that? Think about your questions before you ask anybody for help. Figure out what you're going to ask before you ask it; "think before you talk", as the saying goes.
- What did you do in the 10 minutes before it broke? This is important to remember.
- Can you smell smoke? If so, this is pertinent information, and is probably worth telling to the person you're talking to.
- Noone up the front? Ask a neighbor. They might know more than you think. (then again, you might be sitting next to the Mong)

I was just informed that there was no alchohol actually... (I don't bother reading the e-mail... I usually find out first on the X homepage... or friends bitching at me too book).

No alchohol should be a good thing... though it means there will be no drunken admins playing "Satisfaction" over the PA for 4 hours straight. Whether you percieve that as good or bad, it's up to you.

Also I noted that it said "due to incidents at the last X" or something to that effect. I wasn't able to make it to XvZ III, (hence why Zilla lost of course... *cough cough*) so what badness exacally went down?

Fuck oath, it was a great LAN... Can't wait for the next one ;). It was good to actually be awake/at the LAN for all of the comps this time!

I did notice that too, Dave - only people asking me stuff was when all the LANX dudes were asleep, and people were looking for coffee. Coffee seems to be a very coveted thing.

I'll agree with you there Mudgie; being awake for everything is awesome, but the 19-hour sleep after the LAN isn't cool! :(

yeah i only had to get 2 troublesome pcs on the network, one with a 'disabled' norton firewall that was blocking all but icmp, and another who needed driver reinstall .. pretty quiet for once.
