2, then on sunday night i'll run a poll with the top 5 games and we will run the top 3 or 4 at XXIII.

Quick and dirty: You build stuff multiplayer using Lego blocks. The only "score" is a negative one, gained by falling off your structure (or jetpacking high into the sky and falling).

-Battle for Middle Earth, its a RTS with alot of differences to the standard (DoW, C&C, Warcraft etc...) and definately worth playing, if not in a comp. otherwise, i reckon some DoW would go.

Rome Total War: Open Field, 40,000 gold. This is a fucking excellent game! Anyone who hasn't played it should atleast TRY an open field game of it at X. I've been playing it for damn near six months now and am still loving it! It's an RTS BUT, it's made of very realistic foundations. EG: You don't just build a barracks then churn out a hundred legionaries. You have a set amount of gold to spend before the battle and you spend it on what unit's yo want, what quality of weaponary you want them to have, what previous battle experience and so on. Yet, for all my sweet loving of it I STILL HAVEN'T LANNED IT WITH ANYONE WHO IS SLIGHTY INTERESTED/SERIOUS ABOUT THE GAME! I realise because of the lack of general popularity of the game I comp isn't gunna happen, but if there is ANYONE who plays this game and is willing to gimme a battle of it, LET ME KNOW you will make my day ;).

To clarify why we shouldn't play THUG2 (Tony Hawks Underground 2):

Anyone who hasn't 100%ed (or at least 50%ed) the game will have a skater with non-full stats, seriously crippling them. If you do 100% the game, the only thing you have to do to win a points/graffiti match is find a circular grind combo with a fair few straight bits to change your special grind at, and just keep on going around and around. Jump off at some point into a special manual, jump up from that and into another special manual, et cetera et cetera, jump into another special grind... and that's all. Feel free to watch the timer go to 00:00 and everybody else stops skating, you can keep going around for HOURS. Look at me, I am skilled because I know how to exploit a bug/not-well-thought-out-feature in the game.

Yes I'm pissed off, only because they ruined one of my favorite pre-LAN-era game franchises.

i find it flawed due to the fact that ppl who play the game should not be disadvantaged due to ppl who don't play it want to have a go.

They're not disadvantaged, they just dont have any advantage. A comp should be about a developed skill not about who found the most best mega rare item in diablo 2

'tough titties' if you have to rely on an 'equipment advantage' and don't have faith in your actual ability ;)

thats like say dave, that you're not allowed to use the rail gun in Q3, because if ya that good you should be able to win with just the gauntlet and not fancy equipment.
or not being able to use the moves in street fighter, just cause they can't use em.
it puts ppl who have invested time and effort into the game at a disadvantage because you have to go back to the level of those who don't play the game at all.

erm no, because anyone can grab the railgun. i might be able to use it better than some, but that's because of a developed skill. what would be unfair would be if only I could have the railgun because i had been playing it for longer.

Again, the moves are availlable for them to learn and use if they want, they just have to look it up and practice a bit .. but if you were the only one who actually had access to the moves because you had been playing for longer then that would be an unfair and pointless contest. Like a martial arts tourney where the higher ranking guys got armour and swords.

As if! the people who have been playing for ages will have experience and skill on their side, a significant advantage. Shouldn't a player who is a kick ass player at other driving games, but never plays nfs, be able to compete with you based on the generic driving skills they have developed ??

Besides, even if it was a worthwhile contest to have people compete based on equipment, what's to stop people from sharing or downloading save games and easily and effectively 'cheating' ? I seem to remember there being a general aggreement that it was lame to download pre-built robot for robot arena 2 and compete with that, why is nfs any different ?


What _would_ be interesting and cool though, if there was a comp where everyone started a new game at the start, spent a few hours trying to get their car as shit hot as possible and THEN having a comp using those cars -- because then at least the skill being tested is the ability to get the upgrades as quickly as possible without fucking up. I just don't understand why you think it's worthwhile to have a comp that is completely unfair ..

I agree, I got bored with the singleplayer NFSU2 - and since I don't have a maxxed out car, how the fuck am I meant to have a hope of doing well in the competition? The people who play it religiously will have a huge advantage over those who don't play very much.
