Hot laptops could cook men's fertility

Wed Dec 8, 8:48 PM ET
By Patricia Reaney

LONDON (Reuters) - Teenagers and young men should keep their laptops off their laps because they could damage fertility, an expert says.

Laptops, which reach high internal operating temperatures, can heat up the scrotum which could affect the quality and quantity of men's sperm.

"The increase in scrotal temperature is significant enough to cause changes in sperm parameters," said Dr Yefim Sheynkin, an associate professor of urology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, on Thursday.

I guess it's the laptop's own form of protection.

not very if there Intel Amd on the other hand not to sure. Some Asus laptops it says do not place on lap in the manual.

I will lan at lanx when i go with a laptop.

Be even better when I bring an AP so I can walk around and play

Muz

If you bring an AP and for some reason get lost, you can borrow my uber leet wi-fi finder to find your way back home :D

lol im a fan of running a wireless isp and we are indead need of that uber wifi finder u have....

I could bring one of our new cisco series, 106mbit connection via wireless

MR_PEA
06-01-2005, 11:59 PM
wouldent that be nice we could set up a mobile web cam so all of the kiddies can watch ballcam over the network!

Muz

Yeah, A wi-fi finder is great for when you are in cafe's in the city, you dont need to walk around with your laptop running netstumbler trying to find the best spot, with this you just click once, and it scans for 2 mins then shuts down. The camera idea sounds cool...:)...as does the wireless ISP....ownage.

You can set my laptop + webcam up on whatever to get the mobile stuff happening....if you want....or....get a good view of some office chair racing:)

back to wireless it could happen one day maybe, depends on what is not being used at work for our Wireless network, cause I cant just take an AP if its in use cause then we would have unhappy customers

Muz

Don't B&D Technologies sponsor LAN X events? Perhaps they would give you guys a lend of one...

BlueShadow
07-01-2005, 07:20 PM
maybe but could the lend Cisco its shit if its not cisco

Muz
07-01-2005, 09:03 PM
Yeah Cisco are good, but couldn't you just turn a blind eye for a few days and perhaps use a different brand if you cant get a Cisco?

a lot of the shit that people use cicso for could in reality be done just as well with a cheap linux box. Instead, uninformed / greedy network consultants sell a ton of low end (but overpriced) cisco hardware and support contracts just for basic network applications. Sure, if you're telstra or comindico you're going to want some big ass top end cisco gear .. but to use it for pissy things like wans, small office gateways etc is just rediculous.

Just my 2c

But i'm right ;)

we use Cisco, cause A, the owner aka my boss of the ISP I work for, works for the Department of defence and they use cisco, he uses cisco for its good ness and reliablity, everything we use now is cisco execpt for servers there Compaq, Cisco wouldnt make a diffrence at your Lans but it is good

You forgot the part where clueless upper management falls for the ruse

radass
08-01-2005, 02:18 PM
yeah, but it's not the place for managers to understand this stuff, otherwise they wouldnt need to hire a consultant. We're like plumbers and electricians to them, ie 'just fkn make it work'

As for cicso, of course it's great stuff. Just totally retarded to use it as a DSL router for a small office, for example. But since the markup on it is about 100% it's easy to see why it happens

Compaq eh ? :D

Muz
08-01-2005, 03:37 PM
How much would a really good Cisco router cost, because I am sure it is a little more than a $20 dollar 486 running Linux;)

Joshu
08-01-2005, 03:41 PM
Crawz has an AP which he brings to some LANs... but it's locked to allow 4 MACs access :p

radass
08-01-2005, 03:41 PM
last i looked (few years ago) absolute bottom end, 800 for a dsl bridge & router running a cisco OS

then theres heaps of stuff in the 3k to 10k range but they keep going up to 500K, most likely more ..

Muz

I feel sorry for the companies that pay so much money for Cisco stuff. Yes it is good, but if you just use a Linux machine you barely have to pay a cent, and you get free upgrades for life. Same with offices, why are they paying so much for Windows licenses when Open Office looks basically the same and does all the stuff that Microsoft Office does...same with servers, why pay heaps of money for Windows server when you can get one for free which is just as good, and in my opinion, better. Geez, you can even pick up a Linux Server on the front cover of some magazines, I got a SuSE 9.0 Server (also a desktop cd) with a Linux User and Developer Magazine :)

radass
08-01-2005, 04:18 PM
apart from cisco, ease of use is the problem. plus, open office is slow as fuck. They're afraid of having to pay irritable unix people to manage their shit .. i guess they much prefer the smug cisco bots :)

Muz
08-01-2005, 05:22 PM
Wouldn't Windows support people be more irritable than Unix guys. If you sat two people down, one on Unix, one on Windows, at the end of the day my money would be on the Windows guy being more irritable :p

Joshu
08-01-2005, 05:51 PM
The Windows guy doesn't get expected to run stupid Win32 applications on the server.

E: ...what I should say, is nobody has high expectations of the Windows server guy in the first place ;)
